Official Stanford SCEA 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

You know it will be so weird if we get into Stanford and we somehow meet up with each other.

“Hi, I’m StanfordCS, who are you?”

“Oh, I’m jdlace”

Hahahahhahaha

I’m just sitting in my room blasting my “Identity” playlist right now because if I don’t get in it will be a crushing blow to my self-worth. It shouldn’t be, but it will be, nothing I can do about all my crazy. Just starting to make a playlist for opening the letter. A Winning one and a losing one.

Excerpts:

Happy one: Beautiful Life by Ace of Base, Did it on Em by Nicki Minaj, You Can’t Stop the Beat by the Glee Cast

Sad One: Beautiful by Christina Aguilera, Overkill by Colin Hay (The version from Scrubs), What a Catch Donnie by Fall Out Boy

Of course Stanford knows this because I wrote one of my essays about my obsessive playlist making and need for soundtracks haha

oh, i liked brave new world a lot. the satire was a little heavy-handed but it was really well thought out, and the scenario it presented was pretty realistic based on the direction society is headed, it seemed to me

I just started Brave New World a few days ago. It seems like a really interesting premise; certainly not complete trash. (Although I’m not very far in, so I can’t really say much yet.)

huxley’s Island is like the utopia version of BNW- one of my fav books :)

I’m anxious.

@UnsureOnLife: East of Eden by John Steinbeck!

the alchemist -Paulo Coelho

i gotta go get stuff done and get some sleep. im sure ill have a lot to catch up with on this thread by tmrw morning

Kite Runner by K. Hosseini

Outliers. Malcolm Gladwell.

What do you guys think the likelihood of decisions being released tomorrow? And should we be checking the blog/twitter in the morning for the time, or are they just going to send out a press release right before?

Dune
Ender’s Game
Cronica de una muerte anunciada
Ulysses
The Hobbit

^These are my all time favorite books, i’ve read them all multiple times haha!

@Enitsrik: That book is probably the most important book in my life. That book essentially formulated the way my mom parented for the last three years, and I must say it has worked. I mean I could go to Stanford after all! I finally read it this summer and it really is amazing.

@txnwithadream God i LOVE Ender’s Game. I’ve read it so many times since I was 12 lol.
Cronica de una muerte anunciada… not so much lol. But I can definitely appreciate it for what it is.

@lessthan3x4 I almost wish that I had picked it up earlier. I probably would’ve approached everything that I’ve done in a wholly different way and wound up a radically different person. But thankfully its science (or statistics rather…or perhaps just a compilation of some very convincing examples), not fate

Somehow I don’t think I’ve read anything from the Ender series itself, but I’ve read every book in the Shadow saga. They were really good, so I’ve been meaning to pick up Ender’s Game at some point for a while now.

As for Chronicle of a Death Foretold, I haven’t read it, but 100 Years of Solitude was pretty good. I read it in English though, so I might reread it in Spanish when I get a chance.

Has anyone else here read Atlas Shrugged? I’m a hardcore progressive, but I actually really enjoyed it.

Sooo, uhhh, someone said that last year an applicant called around 8ish and thats when they told them to be looking for the announcement tomorrow. StanfordCS, feeling up to the challenge? Haha I am a total jerk for asking others to do it, I admit.

@Anonymouskiddo from what i understand, people have been calling the admissions office and they say there is a real chance of us finding out tomorrow. I’m not sure tough.

who here called admissions and got a positive response?

The last book I read was Canterbury Tales for my AP Lit class. That was interesting.

@OSUBuckeyes Yeah I did! And though I’m a diehard progressive, too, I actually liked it.
