@thecoolguy:
Yep, started my own “used gadgets resale and refurbishing” business in Dubai.

I’m pretty sure you’re going to be considered as a multi-ethnic person as you’re going to add diversity. But, if I were you, I wouldn’t have put down Asian at all for strategic purposes.

P.S Fellow Asian here xP…ahh it’s almost racism

“I’m not racist, I just support affirmative action!” LOL

@stanfordCS, thats complete bs. they do not have committees for each race

So Dartmouth receives about 12,000 fewer applications and accepts about 500 more students than Stanford (rough numbers, so please don’t jump on rounding errors). How is their process any guarantee that S does the same? If you have watched Dartmouth’s admissions videos, you will see that they encourage applicants to send all manner of supporting documents, essays, letters, etc. Their process is clearly different than Stanford’s. In what way, none of us will ever know, but it cannot possibly be the same.

the level of obsessiveness is getting ridiculous on this thread

@Plasticbag80
tennis varsity:) did you get recruited?

@Rush10 LMAO

@jdlace yeah Stanford strikes me as the place where they wouldn’t do that. If I remember the admissions info in the booklet I got correctly, the only specific mention to anything like that was when it noted how athletics coaches may notify admissions of special circumstances (i.e. recruits) but athletes are still looked at as a part of the general application pool.

@avtrox I agree. Completely. We should just let admissions do whatever they intend to. We’ll get rejected/admitted/deferred no matter how much we know about the process.

Wish me luck on my mvc final! 40% of my grade!!! GAH

I can’t skip any of my finals, i hat finals, they said you cant skip any for Ap classes and im taking honors Spanish III because i took Arabic before, and i can’t skip that either even though i have an A plus. They said the final is state mandated… I guess that leaves gym, but thats not even worth skipping…

I’ve never been able to skip finals in any classes, but I only study for classes that I need to.

Yea, last year we weren’t, but they changed it. So now seniors can skipp if they have an A, but dont forget to read the fine print…

Although this is an old article…
Stanford Admission follows the following process or similar:

9801fea500.shtml

1998 :gasp:

So in 13 years, you think the process has stayed the same?

I wish the merit for being a clear admit was still 7th in your class with a 1590 SAT score…

Avtrox: agreed. Obsessing and “chancing” at this late date is just a waste of time. I kind of agree with whoever said once we have decisions all hope is gone. We’re all too instant gratification-oriented. Waiting a few days, or even a few months, won’t kill us.

Now we can all sing Kumbaya…

And if I were half asian, half african american, I would check the AA box. Did anyone else see the article in the paper about the discrimination against Asians causing them to not check their ethnicity box on college apps? Can’t say I blame people. I hate the whole “box” in the first place. Really the only time I’ve thought about myself as a “white kid” was having to select the (last) box: caucasian/white and then feeling…bad/boring/something…about it?

@Avtrox Yeah I pay varsity tennis, but no way did I get recruited! Haha, Stanford is extremely good at tennis. Their top players have played in the U.S. Open; so basically they are like semi-pro.

Thanks for posting @UPenns
That process description is very heartening and sounds very reasonable. At this point, then, one can hope to be still “swimming”. :-)

. . . or already admitted in the first 2 rounds, of course.
