@SAT128: See, I wasn’t as good at math UNTIL I hit BC last year and now a bunch of other advanced math. It’s a very different way of thinking I guess. I don’t know. I <3 calc/number theory/diffy q though.

Do you guys do any complex numbers in the US?

@hagin
perhaps…maybe I’ll do better next time around. I think my 4 on the ap exam will get me some credit, but no doubt I’ll still be retaking calc for the most part. I think med school wants a background in it

It’s hard for me to understand how a person can love that stuff. Or love any work/knowledge for that matter. I almost feel like I wouldn’t fit in at Stanford lol. I don’t love any subjects or have a passion/interest in anything really. I just avoided emphasizing that in my application. I guess you could say I don’t mind the sciences, but that’s not saying much

I can’t believe I have read every single post in this thread so far T_T hope we don’t get to 4000… my eyes… secretly hopes we get lots more posts

@SAT128: See, I live and breathe learning. I’m in way too many classes to handle right now, not because of college admissions, but because I REALLY want to take all of them and learn all of the material. Yes, I don’t particularly enjoy writing English essays (aka what I should be doing right now), but otherwise I love the class. Everything else I completely enjoy. That’s what I’m looking for in a school. I hope it shows in my application.

@Angel
Just wait for the rage when all of us get rejected. That would be so lol. All the people that cared or posted on this thread end up getting owned

@coffee
dude that’s pretty scary lol. Live and breathe learning >_>…
I hate learning but I bulldoze through it because I want to be a doctor, and I feel like I could love that. I don’t even really like the sciences that much but atleast I don’t hate it like all teh other subjects. I can’t believe I might be going to college surrounded by brilliant lovers of knowledge like yourself

@SAT128

Wait, what? I can’t seriously understand how you’d want to be going to an academic institution with culture so heavily focused on learning for learning’s own wonderful sake, or why you’d even want to put yourself through the tidal wave of eduction that is medical school if you “don’t even really like the sciences.” And how is being passionate about a subject “scary?”

Wow. I’m kind of perplexed.

@SAT128: I feel the same way that harborceal does. I don’t completely understand why you would put yourself through all of this to go to a school where you’re supposed to work hard and learn… I have some friends who act semi-similarly, but not as far as to call academic passion “scary.”

@SAT: LOL It’s so depressing when that happens(: Hope we all survive, as unlikely as that is.

@harborceal and @coffee
yeah I imagine a lot of people would be perplexed. I hope in part to go to Stanford so I can grow to love learning, but if not, then I atleast want to attend a great school so I can have a strong background in the med field. And I don’t have a love or passion for the sciences, but then again I plain hate everything else. I’m stellar in the sciences though and I love the idea of being doctor, so who knows. And being passionate is scary because I can’t imagine what that’s like lol. My dad is just like me. He hated learning but attended Stanford for his residency and is now one of the forerunners in radiation oncology. He even told me that he hated high school, college, and med school and had no love for knowledge but he did what he had to in order to achieve his goals - and no he wasn’t just doing this to relate to me lol

EDIT: I’m willing to work hard and learn but what I’m saying is I don’t enjoy it. I’m capable (e.g. will graduate top 2% of a very rigorous/competitive school) but I just don’t like learning lol. I want to nap and snack damnit

Watch, SAT128 is gonna be the only one that gets in…

I have a legitimate question for you, SAT128… what the heck did you write about for your intellectual vitality essay? It sounds like you are disgusted by everything that topic stands for…

You don’t have to love everything. You could love one subject and still have a great intellectual essay. The only thing I love at my school is physics and economics.

@harborceal
I added my own twist to what they asked. I actually outright said that “intellectual vitality does not necessarily need to be a love or growth via standard knowledge or what you learn in textbook/school. It can be interpreted as life experiences that allow you to mentally mature and improve intellectually blah blah” something like that. I talked about how my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer my soph year and since my father had divorced/left when I was young, it was up to me to step up. So I took responsibility for helping take care of my little sister and took charge of my mother’s business as she was getting treatments and grew to intellectually mature and grow to accept new experiences that challenged my mind and determination. An experience that was important to my intellectual development in a sense. Kinda a stretch, but I didn’t lie

EDIT: oh heh disgusted is kinda a harsh word. lol you sound a little disgusted with me yourself

@ccuser
watch it happen dude. wouldn’t that be a fluke

@bleach
Yeah I just don’t love anything. But in time who knows

@SAT128: I mean, calling my passion “scary” was pretty harsh…

LOL @coffee

@coffee
lol dude I def didn’t mean to offend when I said that. I just meant I was taken aback when you were so straightforward about it. Was just a little mindboggling for me that’s all

Pretty good essay though eh guys?
