Official Stanford SCEA 2017 Applicants' Discussion Thread

It seems that some people are having trouble accessing the Axess main page. The main page URL is: https://axess.stanford.edu/psp/pscsprd/EMPLOYEE/HRMS/h/?tab=DEFAULT

The financial awards page is (I’m not sure if this is account specific):
https://axess.stanford.edu/psp/pscsprd/EMPLOYEE/HRMS/c/ROLE_EMPLOYEE.STF_FA_AWD_VW.GBL?PORTALPARAM_PTCNAV=STF_FA_AWD_VW_GBL&EOPP.SCNode=HRMS&EOPP.SCPortal=EMPLOYEE&EOPP.SCName=ADMN_QUICK_LINKS&EOPP.SCLabel=Quick%20Links&EOPP.SCPTcname=&FolderPath=PORTAL_ROOT_OBJECT.PORTAL_BASE_DATA.CO_NAVIGATION_COLLECTIONS.ADMN_HOME_TAB.ADMN_QUICK_LINKS.ADMN_S200711260618359256275654&IsFolder=false

You would think a school so strong in Computer Science like Stanford would be better at making this stuff work. If it still doesn’t work, try waiting a little more. It’s hard, I know :).

Hahahaha this is so weird but I went out for sushi too!! Hooray! To all: congratulations on coming this far!

@some11no: The first one is an error, the second is the main login page. I think the system is weird/our accounts aren’t finished yet. I can wait. Thank you! I’m planning to major in CS… maybe I’ll try to redesign Axess.

@coffeeandtea Haha, I’ve interned in IT, and what I’ve learned is that IT is often the laziest department in an entire company. Trying to convince an IT department to do anything is a monumental task. They seem to prefer playing World of Warcraft over their actual jobs. But I agree that Axess is ridiculously awful. (Really, you don’t support Chrome, the most popular browser in the world? Really?)

I think I’m pretty ****ing awesome. too bad Stanford didn’t agree

meh, chicks are hotter at UF and I’ll have more free time anyway.

@coffeeandtea I’m having the exact same problem when I try to log on to axess. Good to know it’s not just me

Log onto axess using a supported browser. Apparently, Stanford doesn’t support the latest versions of chrome and internet explorer. You can downgrade your browser in your settings to log on (then reset it after you see the award). When you get in, click “view award letter.” There are a couple options labeled finaid but that’s where you will see da $$$.

Kind of ridiculous for a school so good at computer science but whatevs lolol.

Also I don’t think the online signing in stuff is supposed to work for like 24 hours?
But then again… I actually didn’t get the second email with axess info?

I’m just so confused I think my brain cells are depleted from the excitement of the past five hours

Has anyone received their second email yet? I’ve been accepted as far as I can judge by the first email but I haven’t got the second one…please don’t tell me it’s all a mistake

^DON’T even say that hahahahaha

Ok Stanford, thats cool.
I honestly thought i had a good chance this is bull.
Got a 35 act, 800 and 790 on sat subjects tests. 4 5’s on ap tests.
I speak 3 languages fluently. I revised my essays god knows how many times, like 7.
I did nothing this summer but a lab project at the university of chicago that I had to go to everyday from 9 to 5. I ran cross country and track for four years and was on varsity for 3 of those four yrs and team captain. I got a stellar optional letter from my research mentor. and all stanford says is that we appreciate the hard work the application took. No *ing *. Ive centered everything i do around getting in there beginning with freshman year. Ive gotten 2 A’s in my high school career everything else has been an A+. Ill be the valedictorian. I usually dont swear but what the **** more did you want? And i just saw people with 28’s on the act got in? ***? Maybe i shouldve gotten worse grades, or better yet, painted myself black.
Thanks

I have just about the same stats, same result. 4.0 35 ACT 8 5s on APs, all state soccer players, top 1% in a class of 500. *** do i have to do to get even a deferral my essay on counseling kids at a diabetes camp and how it changed my life wasnt good enough? f*** off stanford.

sorry i didnt get a 36
sorry i dont do research in a college lab just to put it on my app
sorry i should have self studied 7 APs in the last 2 years instead of 6
sorry i should have been a 4 year starter on 2 varsity sports instead of just one
sorry im not a urm
sorry im not firstgen
sorry im not a legacy

in the end, stanford will be sorry.

Everybody has worked hard, studencik88. Part of applying to top-tier universities is understanding that they consider much more than your achievements on paper. Trust that your achievements will lead you to greatness, and you will achieve precisely that.

financial aid info is still nowhere to be found on my axess account. i don’t think it’s an issue with the browser as i have logged in on both safari and chrome

I was neither accepted nor rejected nor deferred. My counselor somehow sent Stanford two separate SAT scores FOR THE SAME TEST DATE. How, you ask? I have absolutely no idea. So now the university has to “investigate” the situation in order to determine whether they’re willing to accept me or not. Now I have to wait until January…

To both of you, Stanford, Harvard, and the like are looking for much more than just your achievements. They also want to know how well you would fit in. Looking at your achievements, I believe that you are QUALIFIED for any of these schools, but you might not FIT IN at all of them; that’s what the essays are for. That said, you should fit in at at least one of HYPSCM, and I’d make sure to apply.

And you know what? Stanford is not the only route to success. In the end, after all, for any of us, it’s not going to be that we’re successful because we did or did not attend Stanford University. We’re going to be successful because we’re US. And no admissions committee is going to take that away.

OMG I’m in the same boat as you, bleach! I haven’t received a second email either! I’m scared! .__.
What if it’s all a lie!! D:

bleach, I was accepted and still haven’t received a second email. Maybe they aren’t sending second emails this year.

@studentcik88 and @statlanta, I really think you and people like you should just grow up! It’s clear Stanford made the right decision in rejecting you, and as for deferring you I hope they realize your true nature before they make the mistake of giving you a spot that someone else deserves more. I got rejected too, but you don’t hear me cussing at Stanford about it- it’s not that any of us didn’t do good enough, it’s just that we weren’t the best fit for their program this year. Move on! Stanford is still a great school, and you shouldn’t be so fragile as to attack them just because you feel offended. Try living up to all the great ways you portrayed yourself in your application, and find a school that will fit you better. Seriously!!

I’ll say it again, congratulations to all who were accepted, and to all who took their rejections or deferrals with a good attitude. You will end up where you deserve, and I wish you all the best of luck!
