***Official Thread for 2015 BSMD applicants***

My D got 18k merit based aid from RPI. Total cost of attending RPI is still high after the 18k aid.

If anyone has finalized on which program you are joining, please post here.
My D is joining UConn 8 year SPiM program

Is there a facebook page for Union/Albany LIM?

Thanks @dblazer for your detailed comparison and @edisonguy for sharing the merit offer from RPI

Is 18K the best merit based offer from RPI this year? Anyone else care to share !

@aus123 please post your stats and acceptances on the results thread.

My S got accepted by WashingtonJefferson/TUSM 8 years but need to keep 3.5 GPA and 70 percentile on each section of MCAT. Is that hard for MCAT? or will take Rice UG. Any comment please?

@ benina If you son is capable of getting into Rice UG, he should not have any difficulty maintaining 3.5 GPA at Washington & Jefferson, and 70 % on old MCAT translates into 29, which is far below national average of successful pre-medical students. However, Rice is an excellent university for ā€œpre-medā€ students. Both of them are great choices! If your son plays sports, perhaps Washington & Jefferson would be a wiser choice since it will be easier to maintain good grades there.

For some random reason, I wanted to appeal a post-interview rejection from one of the BS/MD programs that I applied to. The program website didn’t say that I couldn’t appeal, so I did appeal by writing a letter, that I spent about 5 hours writing and editing, to the program admission committee… The result: another rejection stating that all admission decisions are final and cannot be appealed. lol there goes my five hours.

I just want to let people (future applicants) know that appealing a rejection does not work, so do your best when you are still considered as a candidate!

Thanks @upstream. He has decided to choose the program versus better UG…

My son is committed to Lehigh/Drexel. Finally, it is over for us. I will post his stats on the result thread sometime soon.

Thanks to all of you for giving out valuable insights on colleges and programs. CC had been a great source of information for us.

My daughter has already gone to college last year and now my son is off to college as well. However, I may lurk around here next year, like some other parents giving out information to the young ones or to other concerned parents.

Thanks all and good luck.

My son is admitted to Rice / Baylor and Case PPSP program. Can anyone offer advice of R/B vs Case PPSP? It is a tough decision.

@Mysnkisck What a nice ā€œproblemā€ to have!! Both are excellent BS/MD programs. My preference would be for the Rice/Baylor program … (1) largest medical complex (Texas Medical Center) right across the street from Rice (2) Baylor is much cheaper than Case SOM (approx. $250K for 4 years of medical school vs $340K) but merit aid for UG may be a factor (3) better UG compared to CWRU (4) warmer weather compared to Cleveland. However, Case PPSP does not require students to take the MCAT. You cant go wrong either way. Congratulations!

My D decided to go to Rice UG over another BS/MD program!

Rice/ Baylor is probably more prestigious

Can’t go wrong either way

Thanks. I think it comes down to RICE UG vs No MCAT. All other factors are comparable.

GPA requirement is different:
Case - 3.63
Rice - 3.5

@co88dad Just wondering, but why did your daughter turn down a BSMD program for Rice?

@Dildil
Congratulations! Both of your children going to BSMD programs is just amazing. All that hard work finally paid off!

@burningred It was a tough choice between Rice UG and the other BS/MD (which was not her top choice). Rice UG won because as it is, the success rate of pre-med students getting into medical school is very high (about 88%), which is a result of the excellent undergraduate education and the abundance of clinical/volunteer opportunities due to the close proximity of the Texas Medical Center. Rice UG was better in almost every aspect than the other UG, in terms of student-to-faculty ratio, average class size, etc. She also got an excellent merit scholarship at Rice. Considering she is very hardworking and motivated, she felt strongly that even through a regular pre-med pathway she would still be able to get into a good medical school. Even with the guaranteed spot in the BS/MD program, she was still going to do everything a regular pre-med would do. Not to mention she loved the campus when she visited and stayed overnight for a weekend, as well as the residential college system, the people and the overall feel at Rice.

@burningred , thanks. Where did you decide to go? I see you are accepted to quite a number of programs.
