***Official Thread for 2015 BSMD applicants***

Anyone have a Drexel Med interview yet?

My son received an email from Wayne State today at noon. He was one of the 50 applicants selected for the first interview (he will be having it on the phone because we are out of state). They said that they will further narrow it down and give 30 applicants a 2nd interview which will be at the medical school. I hope you (or your son/daughter) will also receive an email soon.

Has anyone heard back from TX Tech yet?

Has anyone heard from Pitt GAP or NW HPME recently?

@chihuahua1 I sent you a PM

kpdmom - My son applied for GRU/MCG - still waiting after filling out supplement by Jan 15. Did you hear anything?

@peanut7‌ I had my Drexel interview on Saturday

@Papajohns2013 We didn’t hear anything from GRU/MCG yet. They said that the decisions will be released by Feb16th by postal mail. But, I don’t know if we get any mail today since it’s the President’s day holiday.

@chasingmymd1 - Hi, if I remember correclty, you already had your HPME interview at Northwestern. Can you please give some tips and details on the interview? Did you have to write an essay? How was the essay prompt? Do they ask ethics questions? Any help you give will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hey Everyone,

I had a small question/concern that I hope someone can answer. I really want to get into a BS/MD program since I know medicine is what I want to do; however, I don’t have amazing scores. My GPA is about a 3.9 unweighted, and I currently am taking APUSH, AP Lang, AP Chemistry, and AP Spanish Language as a junior at my school. I took the SAT for the second time and I still can’t get past my score of 2090 (690 M, 680 CR, 720 W with essay being 10

For extracurricular activities, I am on the Debate team and play violin. I actively participate for Habitat for Humanity, the local hospital in the heart ward, and I teach kids my native language aged 7-9 every Sunday. I also hold actual jobs during the summer at my school’s bookstore. I volunteered at the hospital for over 75 hours last summer (included plenty of direct patient interaction) and I actively volunteer at my place of worship on a regular basis.

Based on my service, GPA, and SAT score, do you all think I still could be eligible for a few of these great programs? If possible, can you all post the school that would match my criterion? Thank you all in advance

@GoodDoctor‌

I just had my HPME interview and it was pretty typical of a med school interview. They asked why HPME, why medicine, and about my research. The interview with the director of the program was a little tricky but nothing too stressful. Best of luck!

@KBS815‌
Which state are you in? To be honest, your SAT score is kind of low for these programs. I was at the Penn state interview and in talking with the other students, the average SAT seems to be well above 2250. Also you might want to focus on healthcare experience. I see you’ve done some hospital volunteer; maybe try branching into shadowing or research. Research is definitely something you should look into as it seems that more and more competitive students have worked in a lab, published a paper, done Intel, etc.

anyone know whats going on with NJMS? Its been well over a month and a half since my app was forwarded, I was told to expect something by the beginning of Feb. Anyone have an interview or any news?

@starwatch Thank you for the reply about NW HPME interview. Did they ask you to write an essay? Was the prompt difficult?

Good luck to you!
Thank you.

thanks kpdmom. Yah there is no mail today and if they mail out today, it would take few days to reach. I called up the admission director and left message about the process but haven’t heard back yet. I guess we need to wait. Let me know if you hear anything and I will do the same.

@randombowss‌ I had my NJMS interview last Wednesday.

@jb9832‌

@randombowss‌

@lifeishard‌ I haven’t yet :frowning: have you?

@GoodDoctor‌
There was no essay for HPME.

@starwatch - that’s nice. thank you!

@jb9832‌ were there a lot of people there? Or did you hear how those interviews are spread out? I’m wondering if they do it in random batches or if I’m not being considered
