Any future SoCal students going to the reception event in Rosemead?
@falltransfer15 Read the FAQs to get complete information as to how/why Transfer Regents Scholars are selected at Berkeley. http://financialaid.berkeley.edu/regents-and-chancellors-scholarship
This information was very easy to find. I just googled “How are UC Berkeley transfer regents scholars chosen?”
I attended my CCC’s Spring Academic Awards luncheon yesterday and the young lady who won the Best Student Athlete Award, with a 3.77 gpa will be graduating with five degrees. I thought three was plenty! She earned an Engineering for Transfer A.S., a Math for Transfer A.S., and A.A.s in Arts and Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Math and Science. In addition to playing soccer, she was also V.P. of the Student government.
Hey guys, I could use a little help here: I enrolled in Transfer Edge without having talked to my admissions officer about it (I had concluded, from a couple different sources, that it was not needed–definitely poor judgement, no doubt). A message on MyBerkeleyApp has posted on my checklist that I need to meet with my “Transfer Student Advisor” ASAP. Does anyone know what potential ramifications are for this? or how I should go about this? I emailed my admissions officer right away, but am wondering what else I can do or prepare for until he responds.
Thanks.
@MaMoi77 Thanks! I just wanted to know some specifics… because they are awarded to “top” applicants… and who knows what that means nowadays. I guess I’ll just have to wait!
@bruinla, I have to say, the communication system at Berkeley is nuts. My daughter got that email too, but didn’t sign up. Who would know to contact an advisor because WHO EVEN HAS AN ADVISOR?
Don’t worry. I know it will be OK. But what a hassle.
Anyone know if there is a dress code for tomorrow? In the past it was business casual and no jeans (or so I’ve heard). Is that still the case?
Thanks for info, lindyk8. I agree. Navigating BearFacts and their other software isn’t that friendly either.
To the guy at the Chancellor’s Welcome that stopped in the middle of the exit to text: I hate you.
Did anyone else go? They kept talking about how it’s definitely not a mistake that we got in, and I was sitting there like … yeah, I already know. I’m the best ever.
I went! The speaker (forgot his title, but the first guy that spoke) talked to me beforehand and I was the guy he mentioned on stage from Haas that he had a deal with to make a million dollars with. Very friendly guy. Strong handshake too.
@WouldYouKindly quote from the Vice President’: "Vice President’s chancellor reception was really cool and President’s Chancellor was kinda a wack "=)))) I went to Vice President’ speech and it was the coolest guy ever! I was completely sold to Berkeley after the event!
@slantrhymes : my friend and i are
@spenceyboi Oh man! I completely forgot to mention you. The guy that’s gonna make two dollars into a billion. I want to invest!
@bizmlover Luckily for them I was already sold… nah, it wasn’t that bad.
Congratulations to you both on Haas.
Hey guys!
Does Berkeley have a Filipino community for transfers?
@ennanoizid Not for transfers, but communities with more focus on professional development and specific careers. Tbh, you don’t need to join a transfer community specifically unless you want to vent about the resources Cal neglects on transfers…eh.
@giraffinyoucrazy yay, looking forward to meeting fellow transfers irl.
For everyone who went to one of the other receptions, the dress code was casual, right?
@ennanozid Check out both Pilipino Academic Student Services (PASS) and Pilipino American Alliance (PAA). Both are very active pinoy based student orgs with plenty of transfers within.
@ocnative Could you elaborate on these so called resources? I heard that Berkeley is not as transfer friendly as some other UC campuses and I didn’t get a very open to transfer vibe when I visited the campus but that was during dead week so it might not have been an accurate representation though.
@ActuaryorBust What do you mean by it not being transfer friendly? Like the students or the school itself? What exactly gave you this impression? There’s really not much that makes it any different for transfers than it is for everyone else, except the fact that you have to make friends as a junior rather than a freshmen, but that’s inevitable. Other than that, transfers have the same problems as everyone else. You won’t get any special attention for being a transfer, but it really isn’t any more difficult either.
There are plenty of resources though if you need them, like the transfer center, workshops and transfer classes, career counseling, mental health advisors, etc.
@ActuaryorBust I agree! I feel like UCLA has been extremely welcoming while Berkeley hasn’t made me feel like they want me to fit in as much.
