Accepted, but you don’t need my stats, because I come from Europe…
I was totally shocked when I found out that I was accepted, because I am not from California.
I think that my essays got me in, because they were just brilliant.

well, if only UCSD read the essay as a piece of writing instead of simply scanning it for life event facts from which to assign points in their formula, then the brilliant essay might have helped.

[ *]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: Bad test scores, Bad junior grades, good ECs, good essays. My advice is to work really hard sophomore and junior year and to max out on APs and honors courses to maximize your UC GPA and rigor of courses. Also, write a really reflective personal statement, they DON’T like robots! I wish i worked harder and partied less, because I didn’t get into UCLA due to my GPA.

Word on the street is they do not read your personal statements, except to scan it so they can find any possible info. for their point system.

[] Why you think you were accepted/wait listed/denied: Sophomore and Junior year GPAs. They were lower compared to my 1st, 2nd, and 7th semesters: 4.0 weighted.
[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: THE ABSOLUTE WORST PART OF THIS ENTIRE PROCESS WAS WAITING FOR UC IRVINE FOR A MONTH JUST TO BE REJECTED. Hehe. On the other hand, I gave UC San Diego a call and they gave me the exact reason I was rejected because they could pull up my file and look at it. It was GPA by the way. And yes, the “chart” of point distribution is valid.

I knew what I was getting myself into, so I’m cool with it. If you need help with preparing for your application or college or whatever, PM me and I’ll be happy to help. I wish I had had some help. Perhaps I would have pushed my GPA a bit more.
