Official UNC-Chapel Hill Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

@ybingo623: Yes, For transfer students that have not completed their foreign language requirement in previous course work or AP, IB, or SATII credit, you will need to take the placement test in the language you studied in high school or at your first college university.

@13transfer: It seems quite straight forward. Submit your deposit to secure your spot by the deadline or have it released and filled by the wait list. You will make someone very happy!

Can I accept more than one college’s offer, though?

Yes. However, your UNC enrollment deposit is non-refundable. That is the price you will have to pay if you fail to recognize that UNC is a little piece of southern heaven.

A little piece of southern heaven that is extremely expensive. I think that you are giving me bad information though, because I am reading that if one double deposits, he can lose his place at both colleges.

Ahh, I didn’t realize you were suggesting double depositing. No, that is clearly unethical. I mistakenly assumed you knew that you would need to rescind your acceptance at UNC before persuing enrollment elsewhere.

Well hold on. If I pay a deposit at UNC and get accepted somewhere else, can I phone UNC and tell them to cancel my application and then pay a deposit at the other college?

What are you talking about? If you pay for both colleges, when the time comes, you have to pick one and waste the enrollment for others. How does that hurt your admission at both colleges?

@13transfer: Perhaps you should contact the UNC admissions office and explain your situation. It seems analogous to someone on a waitlist. You have no knowledge (or guarantee) of being accepted at a school you would prefer to attend over UNC at the time of the May 1st deadline. If legit, they may even grant you an extension. The key is not to lie, not to enroll in two schools simultaneously, not to screw over the people on the wait list and to be open and communicative to the schools involved. They need to be allowed to build their incoming class in a timely manner and effectively utilize their wait list.

@blackangek2: Really?

I think so

Anyone knows do we have to declare our major again when we go to UNC?

Has anyone not received a decision? I hope I’m not the only one…

@uschopeful2013 call them! I called and the lady on the phone told me the reason why my decision was delayed. After I called my result was available that afternoon.

BTW I still haven’t received my acceptance package…

I got rejected everywhere else (still waiting on two, but not expecting much). This is the most depressing day of my entire life.

Looks like it’s UNC Chapel Hill, guys. Bring on the 10K+ per year in debt! I guess I can try to transfer next year. I’ll spend the summer writing essays…

I feel a little better now. UNC is a great college, but it’s everything that I was trying to escape, being a large public university. I didn’t even apply until two hours after the deadline passed… Plus, it’s damn expensive.

I will actually give it a shot. UNC sounds nice, and I shouldn’t have a bad attitude. I just hope that I get some scholarships so I don’t have debt.

And now I am excited to go to UNC. The weather is great and the campus is beautiful! I hope that I did not make anyone feel bad with my previous posts. It was a bad idea to post something two minutes after I opened 3 rejections.

@333 whered you get rejected from?

Hi! I transferred in Fall 2011 and just graduated in May. Does anyone have any campus questions? You guys are so lucky, the UNC transfer group is working super hard to give transfers a voice on campus!

@Snogintheloo If you are a male what programs are more difficult to transfer into?

I am looking to apply as a transfer from a CC next year into the Bachelors of Arts Computer Science program.

I am fairly certain the Bachelors of Science programs are incredibly competitive, but what about the BA?

Would I be shooting myself in the foot by applying to BA of Computer Science.

For example here is the list: http://www.unc.edu/depts/uc/Students/Majors.html

Do you know what the GPAs were needed to declare what major at the University for those that weren’t transfer?
