[ *] Essays (Include Subjects):[ list]
[ *] Common App Main: On nail polish. I received an email from the head of admissions at another college that I applied to saying that this was one of the best essays she’s ever read (8.5)
[ *] EC Short Answer: On girl scouts (7)
[ *] Extended essay(which topic): Waldo! I actually found my app written up in the LA Times, which was bizarre. Apparently the university thought it okay to defer me while using me as an example of how quirky applicants’ essays can be. This was (I think) very well done. Maybe the most proud of a single piece of writing that I’ve ever been. I wrote about libraries being the place of hidden things (stories are hidden in books and people get lost in stories) and then connected this to Waldo being a hidden thing. I literally purchased a Waldo doll and had him hidden behind the Ralph Emerson books at the Reg. (10)
[ *] Optional Essay: Mediocre. It was on Ed Ruscha and the word “ineffable” (4)
[ *] Why Chicago: Could’ve been better. Super specific but it was difficult for me to say exactly why I’m head over heels for UChicago (6)
[ *] Other:
[ *] Teacher Recommendation #1: English teacher from sophomore year. Very, very, VERY good
[ *] Teacher Recommendation #2: History/Spanish teacher from junior year. I assume it was good.
[ *] Counselor Rec: Hopefully good, but I didn’t get to see.
[ *] Additional Rec: AWESOME. The principal of my large school approached me to ask if she could write me a rec. She never writes recs and that she wanted to write me one is HUGE.
[ ] Interview: Very good. He and I have emailed since my deferral and he’s really on my side. At the end of the interview he told me that I am a perfect fit for the school and one of the best students he’s ever interviewed.
[ ] Art Supplement: Creative writing portfolio. I love writing and plan on pursuing it later.
[ b]Other

[ list]
[ *] Strengths: Fit for Chicago, ECs (I mean, really. I majorly messed up in priorities and did 26 total), essays, teacher recs
[ *] Weaknesses: GRADES. I had personal circumstances that were detailed in a letter, but I know those grades are killer. The test scores, too, could’ve been better.
[ ] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Deferred because they want to see good mid-year grades. I mean, they told the LA Times about my app…
[ ] What would you have done differently?: GRADES. I wish I had focused more on the stuff inside of the classroom and less on the amazing opportunities outside of it.

[ b]Other Factors:
