[] Job/Work Experience: summer job at a lab
[] Essays (subject and responses): I actually didn’t feel too confident about these. I loved my ‘why uchicago’ one, but it was wayyyy long. My choice topic was about the price of knowledge, and how I like to question my own assumptions. It was wordy.

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I don’t know… a lot of luck, certainly. My research project certainly helped.
[/li]

[/ul]Other Factors: Geography? I’m in the midwest. Dont know if that was a bad thing.
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I’m really humbled… I honestly didn’t think my essays were good enough. I’ll be deciding between uChicago and Caltech 2014. To those deferred/rejected, best of luck! Keep in mind that they judge applications, not applicants.
And to those accepted, maybe I’ll see you next year! When do we know about financial aid/ merit scholarships?

[] Weaknesses:A 79 on a math final, a few grades in the high 80s
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Not gonna lie, being a female URM who is interested in Physics probably helped, but those essays were some of the best I’ve written in my life. Also, the interview went really well.
[/li]

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
I nearly knocked my computer off the table when I found out. Super psyched.

I got my email too… but no decision. does that mean that we got rejected/deferred? If that was the case, I wish they’d just tell us straight out. For those of you who got accepted, congrats! But where did you see your admission decision? On the homepage of your account? Thanks

[] Counselor Rec: Didn’t see and have no way of telling how she sees me.
[] Interview (feel, interviewer and general location): None.
[li] Hook (TASP, RSI, Research, etc.): None.
[/li]

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Int’l.
[] School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Supposedly has a good reputation, but IMO has the worst approach to learning I’ve heard of :P.
[] Ethnicity: Would rather not say (might be too easy to identify me).

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Little, if any, clue. Quite possibly the essays (though I didn’t write the optional one).
[/li]

[/ul]Other Factors: None.
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I stayed up all night for this doing nothing…do I get a cookie now? =(

Did anyone get rejected. Deferred.
Does this mean ppeople who did not get accepted are not getting an e-mail?

wait, remnant36 you got deferred?

I got an email at 4:30 on the dot and I still don’t see any difference in the welcome page. No yellow box and no amount of refreshing or signing in/out is helping.

Anyone know what’s up?

edit: Now I get this:

<a href=“ImageShack - Best place for all of your image hosting and image sharing needs”>ImageShack - Best place for all of your image hosting and image sharing needs;

exact same as baburov. got my e-mail at 4:30 but no decision posted on the page…

no i did not get deferred.
BUT I HAVENT GOTTEN ANYTHING.
im freaking out.

Decision: Accepted

Stats:[ul]
[]SAT I (by section): 720/770/680 (didn’t send)
[]SAT IIs: didn’t send, but they were 740/730/610
[]GPA, Unweighted and Weighted: weighted 4.53… school doesn’t do UW. Got a 2.8 GPA at local univ
[]Rank: school doesn’t rank
[]ACT: 35 (36 on math and sci)
[]APs (including this year’s): pretty much all the sciences and history… a lot
[]IBs (including this year’s: humanities… not a diploma candid.
[]Senior Yr Courseload: a lot. and I failed a class… (2 very hard classes at the local univ)
[]Number of Apps from Your School: normally about 4-6 early, and another 10-15 RD
[]Other stats (Awards, etc.): NMS semi, AP Scholar w/Distinction… got a scholarship from local univ for summer class. not much as far as awards go.

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[]ECs listed on app: lots of theater… updated with the news that i’m directing a one act play… volunteering for forest restoration… run my own online store selling jewelry for environmental organization… prezzie of a political club
[]Job/Work Experience: Internship and research project at chemical engineering lab at local univ.
[]Essays (subject and responses): I thought the main common app was the best essay I’ve ever written. It was like the inside of my head, but on paper and not gross. the optional ones were OK. I wrote them in 10 minutes the night the app was due… I thought they expressed me, though. And I made a joke about Sufjan Stevens.
[]Teacher Recs: amazing. they love me.
[]Counselor Rec: she likes me too. she just doesn’t know me that well.
[]Interview (feel, interviewer and general location): I LOVE HIM!!! he was really great, and he made me really explore why I want to go to chicago and it really helped me discover some things about myself. I think he gave me a good rec.
[li]Hook (TASP, RSI, Research, etc.): Research project… classes (31 credits) at local univ focusing on science… heavy involvement with theater w/ leadership roles. I think the whole “interdisciplinary” thing was good. That, and I have a passion that’s clearly expressed, and I’ve pursued it intensely.
[/li]

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[]State or Country: USA- Colorado
[]School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Public, but really good. Not top 100, but still good. We’re in the top 5 in the state for public schools.
[]Ethnicity: Whitey
[]Gender: Excuse you for asking about my lady parts
[]Income Bracket: very low. both my parents are unemployed right now
[]Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): maybe the fact that I cared enough to update my app? My dad has a doctorate, so the $/first gen thing doesn’t apply to me that much.
[]Strengths: theater in combo with science… generally being awesome? /sarc
[]Weaknesses: got a couple bad grades in college classes during summer due to personal circumstance described in counselor rec
[li]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I was expecting to get deferred… I guess they accepted that I can do better, even though I got some bad grades. (we’ll see if they rescind my offer after they see this semester) I think they saw that I’m a bit weird, and I’d make a good fit. i wrote about how I wanted to use college to explore what I want to do with my life. I think they’re the place for that sort of thing.
[/li]

[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:

Congrats to everyone who got in!!! And to those who were deferred, there’s still hope! I thought I was going to be among your ranks, so I totally get it. I had my supplemental materials ready to send in. To those rejected: there are so many other schools, and who knows if this one would have been the best for you? Life works out OK. I posted about this a lot on this forum (MIT), as I am fully expecting deferral/rejection there: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/804079-2014-mit-early-action-countdown-thread-36.html</a></p>

I feel much the same way about UChicago as I do about MIT, except I think I might be a better fit at U of C.

I hope you guys get in RD/ find another school that’s perfect for you!
