****OFFICIAL University of Pennsyvlania CLASS OF 2019 ED Applicants Discussion Thread****

I did

This sounds absolutely awful but it’s great hearing from other students who have put their entire life into penn and gotten rejected/ deferred. All of you have bright futures and I hope you are not blinded or undermined by the disappointing news.

@Vinefeather‌
MIT does not do legacy.

Accepted into CAS!!! Penn19

Hey everyone! I just want to remind you all to remember your worth, whether you were accepted, deferred, or rejected. I was accepted, and I had to go through seeing disgusting “subtweets” from people at my school saying that I didn’t deserve it. The reason I am saying this is that despite any challenges you face in the future, you can come out on top if you believe in yourself. There are people in the world that just want to see you fail for no good reason, so prove them wrong. You have all worked hard to get where you are. Don’t let a decision or judgmental peers ruin that for you. You are all kind, intelligent people from what I can tell. Use that, and you’ll go far for sure.

Good luck to all!

@TooSchool4Cool‌ <— What she said. :)

@DanielHendrycks I know that MIT says that they do not do legacy, but in this case I am sure it helped; I will not give out specifics because I respect the person’s privacy. Regardless of the legacy part, I wanted to put more emphasis on the person’s cheating yet getting accepted anyways.

@randomunicorn Yeah, applying to selective schools really sucks, especially for you international students. :frowning: I’m planning on applying regular decision to Hopkins, Brown, Yale, and Harvard for the heck of it. I really want to go to a city school with strong research and premed, and my parents want me to stay a drivable distance away from home, so I have really limited my options; I was really banking on Penn, but it wasn’t meant to be. I’ve already gotten full tuition to Pitt, and am genuinely considering just going there at this point. I haven’t even started my supplements yet… Not a smart move, I know, but I guess I’m going to have to perform miracles in these next few weeks. :P

deferred SEAS

Hey guys, if you’ve been accepted, when do you find out about financial aid? I checked the “penn plan online” link on the site and it says i didn’t receive any aid… it also says that I’m missing information but i sent everything in… this can’t be right, can it!?!?

I got in CAS but I’m not going to be one of those people that thinks it was purely on merit. Don’t get me wrong, I worked my butt off, but legacy certainly helped.

@Hopeful2019 I’m a Huntsman admit!

Accepted CAS. Stats posted in ED thread.

Welp, I didn’t get into the CAS. I’m not gonna dwell on it. Maybe Georgetown, Brown, Cornell, Lehigh, NYU, W&M or Lafayette will give me a shot. Congrats to those who got accepted and I hope you enjoy the next four years of your life at Penn. To those who were rejected like me, don’t feel down. These schools are a crapshoot for everyone. Take this as a learning experience that you can’t get your hopes set on one school. Rejection is a part of growing up.

@wanttoknowthis‌ Hi, I clicked on the Penn Plan Online as well and I have a financial aid offer there. It’s a long list of numbers with different things like cost, family contribution, scholarship, grant, etc next to each number. You should proba

Hey guys, Penn '18er here.

Just wanted to congratulate those who got in!

For those who were deferred or rejected, I wanted to repeat what others have said, and that’s to not doubt your self-worth. We never know where life will take us. I know people who were not accepted into Penn or any of their original early decision schools and are loving their time at other colleges, just as I know people who were accepted into their original dream schools and did not enjoy their time there/ are transferring to another school. So I guess what I’m trying to say is, don’t be discouraged about the decision today. Ultimately, what college you go to is useful for your future, but it’s not going to make or break it. You might be sad for a day or two, but get up, shake it off, and keep moving forward!

accepted!!! 7 years bio-dental program

@Philly2000 when you clicked on the Penn Plan Online, did you get the following message??

"Congratulations on your admission! On behalf of Student Registration and Financial Services, welcome to the University of Pennsylvania.

Our records indicate that you intend to apply for financial aid. However, your application is incomplete.

Please check theTask List on this site to see what documents are still needed. Once you submit them, Student Financial Services will complete your evaluation and post the results on this site.

I double checked and I believe everything was submitted like 2 months ago…

Rejected. Well I’ve still got a full life ahead of me. Penn or not.

Accepted to CAS!! Congratulations to everyone who got accepted, and for those who didn’t, know that your world won’t rise or fall over a college decision. I’m sure you will end up at amazing schools and do amazing things.

Congrats to all of you who got in! I’ve enjoyed reading your posts the last couple of days and love how you’ve been encouraging each other. Keep that up! Unfortunately, my son won’t be joining those of you who got in. He applied to the LSM program knowing it would be a long shot and unfortunately, the admissions folks didn’t think he should be among the 25 they choose each year. I don’t have time to fill out the results form but these are his general stats: 3.99 UW GPA with many AP’s and Honors classes, 33 ACT super score; 32 Composite; 4 years football (like a full-time job); 4 years tennis; numerous leadership positions; Scholar Athlete Awards; a part-time job, great essays and recommendations, and most importantly, he’s a really nice guy! Although he’s disappointed, he’s also relieved that he will get a chance to choose from his other top schools in regular decision and some of them are in sunnier locations. Hopefully, those of you who also got rejected will see the silver lining once the disappointment wears off. Best of luck to all of you!
