30% of admitted applicants from the US, Canada, & Mexico are Asian when Asian comprise 6% of the general population. 30% of admitted applicants are international. Less than 46% of admitted applicants form the US are Caucasian although they represent 77% of the population. I am sick to death of Asians thinking that they are being discriminated against.

over 30% of accepted applicants at Penn are Asian but Asian Americans are only 6 % of the general population. Hard to see that as quotas or discrimination. FYI - 46% are Caucasian but are 77& of the general population. That could be construed as quota!!!

There are manuy reasons that you did not get in:
- bad essay
2/ Bad interview - Bad recommendations
- Too single minded - not well rounded.

and so on.

Asians are discriminated against in the college admission process, no matter what way you slice it. The percentages are vastly different, yes, but if the college admission process was completely unbiased towards race, many, many, many more Asians would be accepted into top tier schools. It just isn’t the same for Caucasians.

I don’t understand how you can possibly interview kids for Penn and not understand the basics of this argument…

@Serendi first of all how tactless and ungrateful of you to even say that here. U should be thankful one of the best universities in the world admitted you…and on a side note why would u ever wanna go to Columbia over penn? Academically the schools are very much on par and penn will give you so much more in terms college life( meaningful ecs and campus involvement and a good social life). Princeton might be a bit more prestigious than penn and its academics just a notch up but it is too focused on academics and doesn’t provide a well rounded college experience like penn. Also it’s too waspy and stuck up(don’t wanna generalize but that is the reputation) Penn ppl are probably the most normal in the Ivy League. U made a great choice! And u are very lucky!

Rejected CAS, really disappointed… have to move on tho. At least I’ve been preparing stuff for RD lol

Outsider here… Are all the ED decisions out?

I am now accepted at Hopkins, but I always think back and wonder if I had a shot at penn. I have noticed that a lot of Hispanics got in with lower scores) do you guys think I could’ve got in?
SAT 2080 super score 720 math 710 w 650 cr best one sitting 2000 720 710 570cr (I know it’s low. No prep I didn’t want to spend the money)
Chem 750 math 2 750
Act 29 (single sitting. took it twice. It was so easy but I could never finish the sections. Always ran out of time and had to guess)
GPA 3.9 5.08 weighted rank 12/152
Senior year 5 APs sent 1st quarter grades straight As. Essays 9/10
Ap scholar with distinction, spanish national honors society, etc.
Hooks- first generation to attend college in US, bilingual, nationally ranked tennis player( not recruited at penn but that’s how I got into Hopkins), born in South America.

oops! looks like I made a few people upset, did you guys get rejected? good luck

@scarlettlovesivy Congratulations on the Penn acceptance. I was rejected but I’m moving on. Hopefully Brown, Gtown, or Cornell will take me. Enjoy Penn and never forget #octobersatsquad. :)

@Serendi - I was one of the responders to your last post. No, my son was accepted to Wharton, in fact has had a Likely Letter for some time, so he has been 99% sure he was in for quite a while. Accordingly, my post had nothing to do with a rejection as you have speculated (incorrectly). I think what people found upsetting was your suggestion that you preferred another school over Penn. Why apply for an ED admission to a school other than what you view to be your first choice?

@dhizzy Hey! Thank you so much :’ ) I’m sorry about that, but I know you’re gonna end up in a great school. Llet me know how it goes, and thanks again <333 #OctoberSATSquad

@Serendi I was another responder to your post. I am currently a student at penn. I just think there was no need for this post of yours because a. There are many ppl hear who got rejected and b. because why would you even apply to a school that is not ur first choice early decision. Columbia has early decision and princeton has early action…still as I said I believe penn is def a better choice than Columbia and in many cases ( depending on what u wanna study, do later in life) better than princeton…

@Serendi Nope, your comment was simply insensitive.

Right, I am sorry! Reread my posts and it COMPLETELY came across the wrong way. I am honestly ecstatic about my acceptance to upenn, but there’s always the ‘what ifs’ for anything that’s binding (I shouldn’t voice it though, my mistake).

Best of luck everyone, and honestly it’s not the end. Transfers are possible, and I know LOADS of people who transferred into upenn (my interviewer did). So don’t give up hope, although I doubt you would want to transfer once you settle in to your uni and realise that names aren’t everything, especially the undergraduate name once you get a postgraduate degree (which becomes your ‘signature’).

My inbox is open for any questions (probably will be of little help but if you want to talk or vent I’m here)!

@serendi If you were so unsure about the “binding thing” and “what ifs”, you probably shouldn’t have ED’ed Penn.

And the entire “did you guys get rejected? :(” thing? Absolutely rude and insensitive.

rejected, wharton. would have loved to go but it was not likely. 93 gpa, 1880 on my sats, 630/640 on math 1/2 subject tests, etc.

@serendi-- you are unfortunately one of those people who are going to have a long road of saying things that reflect poorly on you without any real understanding of why you send such a bad vibe. Even after you had a number of people here politely school you in why you shouldn’t be whining about getting in to Penn ED, you still came back to show remarkable shallowness and ignorance by suggesting that once people “realize that names aren’t everything” they will be ok at their new school. I hate to tell you, but your target audience here includes folks who will ultimately be attending Harvard or Columbia or Yale or Princeton or a list of other schools that you obviously believe are superior to the one that apparently took you, and you are so transparently focused on the “name” yourself, you can’t even understand how to be supportive to your peers. Good luck meeting your new classmates at Penn and I hope that you learn something from the comments directed at you here before you open your mouth at school next fall and make a first impression that will work against you for years to come.

I was accepted to CAS, but I have not received my official packet in the mail. I’m not super concerned, but I was just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem?
