What worries me is that I started out with a 3.7 at 10 credits, then when I graduated high school and began my current university, only 9 of those transferred. The GPA didn’t transfer over so by December 2013 I had a 3.88 with 27 credits.

Now, I’m at a 3.9 with 45 credits (46 if you count the one that didn’t transfer). I took more difficult courses over the Spring and passed Business Calc with a 96% A. I had straight A’s with one A- in Microecon. I was upset about that but it’s better than Fall 2013.

When Summer Session I is over I’ll have 50 credits with hopefully a higher 3.9. I’m taking a required intro to accounting course as well as some of the junior requirements of my degree program but I can’t have a schedule full of 300-level business courses until I complete 64 credits. I did not get SGRed so USC can’t see the significant progress I made from Fall 2013 to Spring 2014.

Sidenote: I’ve already made my schedule for Fall 2014 which includes Financial Acct., Managerial Acct., Macroecon, Statistical Analysis, Finite Math, and American Sign Language or a 300-level music in cinema course. If I don’t get in this time around, hopefully having all the accounting requirements and more than 48 transferable credits will do me some justice next year.

For those of you who received a SGR via Connect… did you get a hardcopy in the mail? I still haven’t received anything and was wondering if I am the only one. Thanks!

Anyone ever hear of someone getting accepted without their stars audit report filled out? There hasn’t been any activity on my account for some time. I know there is still some time, but I’m starting to think I have been rejected.

Is there anyone here that would be willing to pay the “sticker price” of USC tuition? i.e. will you go to USC if they do not offer any grant/scholarship aid? If yes, how do you justify the expense? I ask because I am not expecting to receive any aid at all, and so it will be difficult for me to choose USC (if I am accepted…) considering I could go to a UC for 1/3 the tuition. We all know that USC has the resources to provide amazing educational opportunities, and it’s pretty much my dream school. However, I don’t want to have regrets later in life when I’m saddled with student loan debt. What do you guys think?

@dmdwelle People typically justify it based on the connections you form with alumni. I will be receiving some financial aid, but I am choosing to forgo the loan options, and only take the grants/scholarships, should I receive enough of them. If I did not receive enough “free money,” I won’t be attending. In your case, I think it depends on just how many loans you would have to take, as well as what UC you attend (just in order to compare their reputations/ranking, etc.)

@hepburn95 I’m in the same boat. Saw the SGR on USC Connect but never received the actual physical copy. However, sending in your spring grades is straightforward (I just sent a request to my school to send them).

@wdemasters02 @hepburn95 Straight from USC…

“This may be obvious advice as well, but spelling and grammar can make a difference. It’s so easy to use spell check these days that I’m often surprised when I find students who haven’t mastered how to spell words like “definitely.” Although we are looking at the college essay more for the content than anything else, it can be hard to ignore multiple glaring mistakes in one essay or application. Writing is an important part of being a college student, thus we want to make certain that students have the ability to write an essay with a solid structure while paying attention to spelling and grammar.”

@hepburn95 I’m assuming I’ll need about three years at SC, so the cost of attendance would be around $180k. I think my parents will help out with some, for the sake of discussion let’s say about half. The thing is, even if they agreed to pay for all of it (which is a possibility), I think I would feel guilty asking them to pay that much when I could get a comparable degree from UC for much less. Maybe I just need to get over my guilt. Lol!

My best option for the UC system is San Diego, where I would major in Econ with a minor in Business or Accounting.

@dmdwelle To be honest, loans petrify me. I am avoiding them like the plague. UCSD is a great school with a great Econ program. I would highly consider it over USC, permitting you end up in the situation you described. I hope to see you on campus in the fall, but I think we will both have to heavily consider the consequences of loans later on, especially in this economy.

@theyadoreyou I’d go so far as to say that most people who get accepted don’t have any changes on any of their online accounts until they receive the letter in the mail

I just called USC Regular Admissions and she couldn’t give me a decision on the phone (as expected), but she did say that they mailed out my decision today, which means I should get something in the mail either tomorrow or Wednesday. She also said that my USC Connect will be updated soon, probably within the day. So, just gotta wait!!

I’m sure they sent out a lot of decisions this morning! So many of you might hear back soon!
