Oh no

Sorry candidatemom but in fairness to menchen, I think your comments are over the top. As we know next to nothing about this young adult’s life, responsibilities at home, commitments in ECs, the curriculum and the overall level of these courses and requirements, I think the last thing we should be doing is slamming the kid. 6 AP courses as a Senior after 3 as a Junior??? Should we instead commend the student that does not take the 6 APs and settled instead for 1 or 2 AP courses so they can pull down an A without much effort?

AP classes may indeed be a close approximation of college level courses. The key point in differentiation concerns the fact that menchen is not yet a Plebe as in not yet a college freshman and is apparently taking a full plate of college level courses, not just a select few. If we rescinded the nominations of every current Plebe that got some Cs we’d lose half the class. Maybe more.

Menchen may be guilty of over commitment and should keep this lesson front and center during the start of the USNA academic year. Have realistic expectations for yourself and then do your best live up to them. The advice that was extended by Simayan makes sense to me, better to let them know with some explanation that to simply read a transcript that says nothing about the circumstances.

Menchen I sincerely doubt given your explanation the Academy would rescind your nomination, be proactive about your situation and work hard through the rest of the semester. I’m sure things will work out for you.

Take care and good luck.
