Oh, wise parents: I need your help once again.

I join those who say wait until October (at least) to get your own cell phone. You will be able to stay in touch with your friends through instant messaging. Or even a land line-- $40 can buy a fair number of long distance minutes (assuming the school provides the basic phone service in the dorm room). In the meantime you will have a better chance to get acquainted with your new friends because you won’t always be interupting live conversations to take a call. And you can figure out what cell phone service is best for the area in which you will spend the greatest part of the year.

As for ORD vs MKE, Mapquest says it is 72 miles and 1:18 to get from one to another. (Depending on where you are in WI, it might be less difference because you wouldn’t go to Milwaukee first.) What time of day are you looking at? Remember you would be asking your ride to do double. Factor in extra time to navigate parking and the airport, and probably more expensive parking. Factor in some value for stress avoidance. It all weighs in favor of Milwaukee if it is affordable. I do realize that $200 looks a lot more affordable to an adult with a regular income than it does to a college student.

I actually just did those same flights (although to DC instead of NYC). I flew into Chicago O’Hare to visit one friend, drove to a suburb of Milwaukee (a little over an hour) to visit another, and departed from Milwaukee, with a layover in O’Hare. There’s a lot of construction around O’Hare so if your parents don’t like driving in traffic/unfamiliar areas, I understand that.
The flight from Milwaukee to Chicago is about half an hour.

Like someone else said, the “perfect” move-in time doesn’t exist. Early in the morning is when EVERYONE tries to move in. You’d be better off with a flight that gets in later, because everyone will already have been moved in and you’ll have more space (and helpers) to get your own stuff into your room.

It will work out! :)

…Did I miss where the OP said he would be driving from Milwaukee to Chicago?
