Ok....positive developments

My local news…

I was driving to work…I was a little late. I know there are speed traps everywhere. I know I am going 5 mph over the speed limit…which isn’t much. It is 4 in the morning. It is not like there are a lot of cars on the road. :)

And I look in my rear view window…and there is a car… going a lot faster than I am… behind me. I can only see the headlights. So I pull off the road. And when i do this…I am surprised to see that the car behind me also pulls over. It is a policeman.

The policeman walks to the car. He gets to the window. he is about 30. Tops. I’m 55. Before he says anything, I said, “Why did you pull me over?”

“You were speeding.”

"How fast was I going?

“50”.

I looked at him. And I said firmly, “The speed limit is 45”.

And the policeman looked at me…and I think he started to think it was a little ridiculous to pull me over for speeding 5 mph over the limit …especially when there are 5 cars on the road over a 5 mile stretch.

And then I said, “And you didn’t really pull me over. I pulled over on my own…because you were driving so fast behind me…I did not know you were a cop.”

And the cop said, “I am not going to give you a ticket. Just be careful. There are a lot of deer on this road.”

I shook the cop’s hand and said . “Thank you. I will be careful.” I did not want to tell the cop I had lived in the town for 26 years…and my wife hit a deer on this very road…and killed the deer…several years earlier…

So…no ticket…

And…

Life is good…if you are not that deer…

“And you didn’t really pull me over. I pulled over on my own”

These are not the droids you are looking for.

LOL! dstark is a Jedi master!!

Her chickens are still laying even though it is getting cold.

I don’t think the neighbors chickens are laying ( they are awfully quiet), but my roses are still blooming!

bunsen- you beat me to it on consumer sentiment- as collected by UMich, up in Nov to 64 (estimate was 61.5) over last month at 60.9.

More good news: In Italy the Senate voted to allow a new government.

Disney reported a 30% rise in profit, due in part to better numbers at the resorts.

Another plus to juice the economy: the ruling to accelerate depreciation from 5 years to 1 year is now in effect.

dstark- your lucky day. May it continue to be so!!! Also an all-round good story.

HCL Technologies, an Indian co based in New Delhi, plans to hire 10,000 in US and Europe by 2015.
Other Indian co’s dong the same:
Infosys 1500
TaTa Consultancy 1200
Wipro 400 American vets of wars in Afghanistan and Iraq

Sales, marketing, consulting services for more personal communications are needed for them to expand in the US market with their products.

I successfully reprogrammed the programmable thermostat at our new house so that it will keep it at the temperature that we like without readjustments four times every day.

When I went to “borrow” Happykid’s laptop this evening, I found all of the missing blankets heaped up on her bed. But I am leaving the thermostat at that new setting anyway.

Oh, and I have not hit a deer for the past 12 months, one day, and 15 hours. Life is good for me, my refurbished car, and the local deer.

Happymomof1,…I love your post…and I would expect nothing but positive posts from you with a screen name like that.

Performersmom…you said something earlier about becoming a bagger at a grocery store…are you a stay at home mom…or are you working in the finance industry…you comke up with some interesting posts.

And what do your kids perform?

dstark,
I am not employed (for pay, at least LOL) at this time. But I do have a very old, defunct, obsolete MBA. I worked in finance a looooong time ago -smile. I just read the papers and magazines and keep up with the media.

D1 is a classical singer, in college, plays soccer, and is majoring in Film Studies with minors in French and Italian.
D2 is a singer, ballet dancer, actress, still in HS, planning to get a degree in Liberal Arts, maybe media/journalism/communications- who knows! She is in the midst of the insane app process.
I have been their chauffeur and “manager” three plus hours a day, but that is winding down as they become very independent.
In a different economy, I would certainly be working again and/or going back to school!

aih has hinted a few times about your mysterious and unusual past… please do tell!

My mysterious and unusual past is I don’t have one…

I think she is talking about my family losing everything in two different countries as communists took over both countries. Although…the problems with the first country may have been religious.

Anyway…with that history I find it amusing…that because I write about income and wealth inequality…or I trash the finance industry… I am accused of being a
communist.

I like your kids’ biographies. I love soccer…I love listening to people
sing. My 54 year old wife was playing soccer 3 times a week during soccer season. Age has finally gotten to her…she is only going to play twice a week next season.

Dstark,
That is a very amazing history, exotic but PAINFUL. You are amazing to have picked yourself up and started over not just once but TWICE.

And you are still hopeful, and believe that things are not black and white, not so simple, so much kudos to you!

Yes, sports and arts can really lift the soul. We humans all need to play, to create, to entertain, to be entertained, to be alone, and also to join together with others.
E-N-J-O-Y!!!
p.s. your wife is impressive!!! is she is an adult league?

Well…my wife isn’t in a kid’s league…:)

She plays in an over 35 leave and an adult league.

You are giving me too much credit. My grandfather had to go through this twice…my dad…once…

I wasn’t born yet…

Is your oldest daughter playing on the college soccer team?

"Yes, sports and arts can really lift the soul. We humans all need to play, to create, to entertain, to be entertained, to be alone, and also to join together with others.
E-N-J-O-Y!!!

YEAH!!!

Yes, she plays for her college. She loves loves soccer, is pretty good, loves being on a team, loves being in shape and working out. Not so in love (reasonably, I am afraid) with her coach, and yes, she has had her share of injuries- oh well, nothing is perfect…

Anyway, I am hunting for some positive news for the day now.
(I think we all need a lift with a bunch of depressing things at the moment.)

Housing formations are running well below average and some day…this is going to pick up and the demand for housing is going to increase.

[Bloomberg: Household Formation Begins to Pick Up, as Young Men Don’t Want to be Tagged Losers - Look for an Increase in Divorce Rate as a Positive Sign! - International Business Times](http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/140846/20110503/bloomberg-household-formation-begins-to-pick-up-as-young-men-dont-want-to-be-tagged-losers-look-for-.htm)

“The moving-back-in-with-Mom-and-Dad phenomenon is creating a growing backlog of pent-up households,” …
U.S. household formation in the three years ended March 2010 was about 2.3 million short of the long-term average, according to Census data. Increasing demand for homes should help offset the so- called shadow inventory of vacant properties, Hunter said.
Households form when young people move away from their parents or siblings, marriages break up into separate living quarters and immigrants find new homes. “Once job growth improves a bit, formations will pick up strongly,” said Mark Zandi, chief economist in West Chester, Pennsylvania, at Moody’s Analytics Inc. He says 1.25 million is a normal annual rate."

Someday, lol…housing is toast for quite awhile…

Uhhhh…this is a positive thread. ;)
