Someone mentioned earlier about the exciting finish to the men’s triathlon. Four guys pushing all the way until the last 100m. Then, the German Frodeno drops the hammer and wins by a mere 3 seconds in front of Whitfield of Cananda and Docherty of NZ. Super exciting! Great venue and beautiful background on the Ming Tomb Reservoir. The camera shots at water level were fantastic. I give NBC and A+.

OK, just saw what happened in the 200M. Ouch.

WARNING: DO NOT READ IF YOU …

US track and field is an embarassment this year. Running out of lanes, dropping batons, no one in the finals of so many events. My H thinks that the US has so much better drug testing they are losing a bunch of athletes…Any thoughts??

Oh no. Just peeked at NPR. Tyson Gay can’t get a break with luck this year.
S. was anxious to watch Jeremy Wariner.

and that’s a clean sweep of the sprints for the Jamaicans with only the relays to go YAY!!!

Nothing is as embarrassing as being caught as a drug cheater. I’d rather see a clean US team that doesn’t win gobs of medals than having a dirty team that does.

I never knew how exciting the equestrian events could be! Am enjoying watching them this morning and there’s another jump-off for gold. One of my favorite stories of this year’s Olympics is Canadian Ian Millar winning a medal in the team jumping. He is 61 years old and this is his 9th Olympic games, and he’s already planning for London in 2012. Ian lost his wife to cancer earlier this year so it’s particularly wonderful that he won a medal in Beijing.

I haven’t seen a second of Rhythmic Gymnastics…it’s usually beautiful to watch, but talk about something that should not be a judged Olympic sport! Anyway, I looked it up and I guess the US didn’t even have anyone that qualified!

Let me see: so your husband was implying:
- the athletes in other countries are doping?
- US athetes were cheating big time in previous Olympics?

alwaysamom - I also caught a few minutes of the show jumping. Pretty exciting-

Seven(?) horses and riders vying for third. They had a jump-off where you not only needed a clean round but also the fastest time. To cut time, the first American rider decided to jump his horse over the course decorations rather than making the loop  He would have made it, but knocked down the last fence. Weird, but legal, I guess… Didn’t get to watch the rest, so don’t know who got the bronze.

And although it’s somewhat negative, I must add…
I’m really glad beach volleyball is finally finished.

Ugh. Me, too. I’d like to see dressage highlights in prime time.

Rhythmic gymnastics is the only event that has driven my 13yo from his spot on the couch. “Isn’t there anything better to show?”

And he wondered whether the horses get some kind of Olympic recognition, in addition to the riders. Any ideas?

The showjumping was awesome! Tricky of Ward to jump over the scenery but then he ran her at the last jump, buried her at it, and totally took it down
Too bad because his horse has been amazing. Beezie, the other U.S. rider in the bronze jumpoff, also jumped the scenery to shave off time and got the bronze.

The live feeds online have been awesome…I’ve gotten to see every single jumping round (eventing and showjumping)…and could have watched dressage…

If anyone wants to see it, click on Equestrian, then the Individual show jumping results on the NBC Olympic website – there’s about 5 hours (!) worth. The little slider thing is touchy, but if you move it forward to about 4 hours and 15 or 20 minutes or so you can see it. We have a niece who rides so I forwarded it to my cousin-

Just tried to watch the Men’s 400m online. No luck. Maybe blacked out til they show it on tv??

I saw a fascinating table tennis match this morning. A Singapore representative, going up against China’s world and Olympic champion, decided she had nothing to lose. So she put away the heavy artillery, and try to entice the Chinese into hand-to-hand combat.

The Chinese, arrogant as always, accepted the challenge. Next thing you know the two players planted themselves close to the table, exchanging quick attacking forehands and quicker than quick half-volleys on the back hand. I have not seen this modern variation of the classical Chinese attacking game in a long time.

This is possible because Singapore imported their players from China.

You have to check out The Onion. Apparently Michael Phelps has been returned to his tank at Sea World.

It is gut-splittingly funny.

All I have to say is…lot of Tar Heels on that Women’s Soccer Team. ;)

The Onion piece was hysterical.
