Omg...Tom Cruise is getting a divorce...

They’ve reached a settlement. Wow, she must have had the goods on him.

I just saw that on Yahoo. it didn’t say anything about whether she got sole custody, though. I agree- a settlement that quickly means she was holding all the cards.

hope that means that Suri will be protected and won’t have to read all kinds of sordid things about her parents’ divorce one day.

probably the quickest celebrity divorce agreement ever…

Yeah, I’m pleased for Suri’s sake.

It could mean that it wasn’t about scientology, after all.

[briannechantal: Cousin of Katie Holmes reveals the REAL reason behind TomKat split](http://www.briannechantal.com/2012/07/cousin-of-katie-holmes-reveals-real.html)

^um, who is brianne chantal? seriously, if it was all about her wanting another child or her career not having taken off, she’d have no leg to stand on requesting sole legal custody. (realize we don’t know if that is part of the agreement, but don’t imagine she’d back down immediately on it either)

Guess we shall see over time if she wants another baby or gets sole custody. For the child’s sake, I think a very private affair is a good thing.

I don’t believe the validity of the statement of the ‘cousin’ for a minute. Tom, by all accounts loves his kids and I can’t imagine he would say ‘no’ to another child. He doesn’t raise them, Katie and hired help do, so it’s no additional burden to him.

Personally, I think Katie was very well coached, this was exceptionally well orchestrated, and she had something on him (just my opinion, for this to settle so quickly). We’ve seen how he treats his wives during divorce proceedings and he doesn’t play nice for the sake of the children. I am glad for all involved that a quick settlement was reached. I hope Katie got what she was hoping for, that Suri is protected to a degree that she needs to be (after all, no one outside that marriage knows what that is), and together they can continue to parent her without a lot of animosity. It’s difficult, but it can be done.

Pretty much the first thing that entered my mind when I read that those has been settled so quickly and with Katie getting sole custody of Suri (with Cruise having visitation rights) was “what the heck does she have on him?”.

edit - The first article I read says Holmes has custody, but others don’t specify - so my statement above may be wrong

Latin was the lingua franca of the day. Conducting rites in Latin actually ensured that all educated people in all countries could understand what was going on.

I’m not a fan or Catholicism or organized Christianity in general, but I think that this is a bum rap, so to speak.

PS, I was actually present at the first Mass that a Pope celebrated in the vernacular. :)

Don’t care about the divorce but I’ll never forgive Tom Cruise for accepting the role of 6’ 5" 240 lb Jack Reacher in “One Shot”.

He ruined Lestat for me for years.

He is just one weird dude. I think she had something that was very damaging for him to play nice. kudos to her, for protecting her child.

I soooo agree, I’m not upset w/ TC though – it’s a great role and it was obviously offered to him - why turn it down? My anger is w/ Lee Child and the movie’s producers – what were they thinking??

I have a lot of respect for both of them for settling this amicably and quickly. Better for their child.

You don’t have to believe in a God or Deity to be a religion. Ethical Culture was recognized as a religion in several court cases despite taking no position on the existence of a deity.

I don’t think Scientology is a religion though.

I think that something that differentiates a cult from a religion is the practice of punishing those that try to leave, alienating followers from loved ones and friends who don’t subscribe and secrecy surrounding practices and rituals.

Some accepted religions may have some level of these methods. The line between the two is fuzzy, in my mind.

I agree with Dadof3: Tom Cruise thinks he can carry off the role of Jack Reacher!?! No, no, no.

I agree with TutuTaxi (though I think Cruise probably had something to do with getting the role and should know his limitations): What were they thinking?

I’d cast Clive Owen.

^^^ Jim Caviezel
