The falls are AMAZING if you don’t have that type of scenery near your home . Well worth the trip Just a little outside the city.

I havent noticed homeless in Portland, possibly because I am from Seattle where they are much more noticeable and numerous. Teens for some reason are attracted to Portland. I remember before my daughter began college in southeast Portland, watching a documentary about the youth w drug problems ( meth mostly)who were on the streets.
We also stayed on the east side of the river, although they can be persistent at the max stops.

In our Seattle neighborhood, many live in cars and motorhomes that move every so often, but otherwise are not driveable. They are building more low income housing, but the city will soon be low income housing & expensive housing, with not much in between.

I would suggest the falls and Saturday Market. H and I really liked Deschutes Brewery - we spent several very nice hours there. I admit we waited in line a Voodoo Donuts, and it was fun … but I wouldn’t take time from other things to do that.

And contrary to it’s name, the Saturday Market is also open on Sunday…Sat 10-5, Sun 11- 430, so you could do it all!
We also like Deschutes Brewery… A good lunch or dinner place downtown

Wait, you mean not everyone would use their one day in Portland to do tours at Lewis & Clark and Reed? :)

Add me to the list of those recommending Mother’s Bistro for breakfast. The Mike’s Special Scramble is the best egg dish I’ve had in my life! So good that, even though we were only in Portland for a few days, I went back and had it again a couple of days later - and I’m one who usually likes to try different things off a restaurant’s menu.

On edit - note that breakfast menu is served until 2:30pm.

The best breakfast i ever had in Portland was at the Mallory hotel, which alas, is not there anymore.
Its now the Hotel DeLuxe.
Havent been there lately so I cant say how much they have changed it.
But James Beard reportedly loved their hangtown fry and what was good enough for Mr Beard, is good enough for me.
( Meriweathers makes a version that they *call hangtown fry, *but it isn’t)

Thank you for all the great suggestions.
Ice cream sounds like a plan. I will need to look at the dining suggestions more carefully.
Looking at the invitation the wedding is in Beaverton at 5 pm Saturday. We will need to be there at 4:30. It doesn’t leave much time to do much since we will have to allow time to change and drive.
We will get some Oregon nature since we plan on camping before and after the wedding. Probably on the coast before and the eastern part of Oregon on our way back to Ca. Lots of driving.
Hanna- I tried with all three to get them interested in Lewis and Clark. I didn’t get any takers. 2 have graduated and my youngest is going into her 3rd year this fall.
