One of the best books I've read in the last 6 months is .

I’m reading “the Circle” by Dave Eggers. It’s good!

I liked it!

“The Shadow of the Wind” by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. This was part of our summer reading, and it was by far the best book I have ever read throughout my high school career. Recommended for those who like mystery.

‘Justice’ by Michael Sandel. Better yet, go to justiceharvard.org and watch the famous political philosopher interact with a group of Harvard students. Outstanding, thought-provoking. Can’t say enough about it.

I saw the Michael Sandel series on PBS. Incredible!

The Shadow of the Wind is part of a trilogy. The prequel is The Angel’s Game - horror rather than mystery, in my opinion. I haven’t read *The Prisoner of Heaven/i. There’s also a short story available (Kindle) that fits between the second and third book.

Here’s the CC Book Club discussion on The Shadow of the Wind:

Walks Away Woman

An amazing book!

Not too far in yet, but I’m enjoying “The Sleepwalker’s Guide to Dancing.”

If anyone has read Robin Hobb’s fantasy series in the past, she has a new one out, “The Fool’s Assassin” that I really liked. Now the problem is waiting for the next book.

We own the first book of Hobb’s Assassin series, and my son was very disappointed that we don’t seem to have the rest of them. I don’t think I’ve read it.

I finished Delicious! I liked that she didn’t make the ending too tidy.

I am enjoying Pearl Buck’s Peony. She was a wonderful writer.

^ I recently read Pearl Buck’s “The Eternal Wonder”, and I agree, @onward.

I like those Assassin books…I think there were three…now four I gather.

I really love Tana French’s Dublin Murder Squad series, and am just about to start her latest, “The Secret Place”. She is one of the few authors whose new releases I will bump to the very top of my “to read” pile.

Older title but I just finished reading “The Hare with the Amber Eyes” and I found it engrossing. Have taken out “Wild” from the library Overdrive but haven’t started it yet.

westcoastmomof2 - I agree! Tana French is awesome. I can’t wait to read “The Secret Place!”

Hello all, After seeing all the posts about the Tana French Dublin Murder Squad series…I’m considering giving it a try. Do I need to read them in order or is there a particular “best” to start with? Thanks!

Others may disagree - but I don’t think you have to read the French novels in order (it helps, because the characters are intertwined). That being said, the first book in the series - “In the Woods” - was very good (probably one of my favorites. I also really liked the last one, “Broken Harbor.”)

It helps if you like your mysteries a little “untidy” - sometimes the endings to her books are a little unresolved.

I loved The Hare With Amber Eyes too.

Different strokes for different folks…I really disliked Delicious. I loved Sleepwalker’s Guide to Dancing.

I really like The Secret Place, though In the Woods is still my favorite Tana French book and Broken Harbor is my least favorite. You don’t have to read French’s books in order, but IMO, it would be good to read Faithful Place before The Secret Place. All of her books are really good.

If you like mysteries, I also recommend Peter May’s The Blackhouse. I just won the second in the series, The Lewis Man, but haven’t gotten it yet.

I also liked A Spy Among Friends, about one of the Cambridge spies, for those who like non-fiction.

I was disappointed by We Are Not Ourselves. I expected a lot though…maybe too much.

A fun “beachy” read is Chinese Cooking for Diamond Thieves.
