@scout59, darn, you are right. Sept. 23 release is in the UK only.
I found the book to be a major “page turner,” even though I listened to it on audiobook. It may sound strange, but it wasn’t so much that I liked it as much as it was that I couldn’t stop listening to it. It was pretty compelling. And yes, I did finish it!
Has anyone started the new Jonathan Safran Foer? Getting sort of mixed reviews, but I’m about to jump in. But why are so many books these days 600 pages?
@TempeMom and other sci fi fans, I just finished* The Cold Between * the debut novel of Elizabeth Bonesteel. It’s not perfect, but it was a lot of fun. It’s a bit of a romance, but much less than you think it’s going to be from a somewhat over the top early chapter, mostly it’s a mystery. I enjoyed spending time with the characters and would be fine with seeing more of them. (This is apparently planned to be a series.) The world-building is a little under-developed, but I’m guessing it will feel more fleshed out if there are sequels - which are apparently in the works.
Just re-read In Cold Blood, by Truman Capote (audio book) during my bike rides and when driving my car.
It’s an unusual book, described as a “nonfiction novel.” There is a lot of “dialogue” that cannot possibly be actual quotes from the principals, no matter that he interviewed the subjects. So it really does read like fiction much of the time.
Despite the controversy, this book was beautifully written! The scene where the teen girlfriends of Nancy Clutter go into the house in search of their friend, only to find her body in a blood spattered bedroom, is terrifying.
That book stuck with me since I read it over 30 years ago. If you haven’t seen the movie “Capote” (probably my favorite Phillip Seymour Hoffman film ever), now would be a great time to watch it.
^^^^Thanks. I’ve never seen that movie. Reading the book inspired me to learn more. I downloaded the book
*Truman Capote and the Legacy of In Cold Blood * to my Kindle and read a couple of chapters last night.
@intparent and @Nrdsb4 – have you seen the other Capote film? It’s called Infamous, and the (excellent) British actor Toby Jones plays Capote. Plays him differently than PSH, but oh so compellingly. If you liked Capote – it sounds like you did intparent – definitely check out Infamous.
I haven’t seen it. Might watch, although I love the image of PSH as Capote and am not sure I am ready to supplant that. Somehow PSH, who was a large and imposing guy, played Capote as a physically tiny man.
Those of you who are Louise Penny fans and know of her beautiful journey with her husband, Michael, well, you would probably want to know that Michael passed away last night.
And her words of his passing:
“Michael passed away last night, at home, at peace, with love. “It’s not so much that his heart stopped, as that he’d finally given it all away.” Surprised by joy…”
