Mystery fans - I really enjoyed ā€œMother Daughter Murder Nightā€ by Nina Simon. Good story, strong women characters.

I check the kindle book deals every day and noticed several Rick Steves books (Spain, Portugal, Italy, Paris, London) are on sale today. Note the edition…some are from 2022, only Portugal is from 2023, if that is important to you.

Just finished The Maid by Nita Prose (talk about onomastic determinism). I enjoyed it immensely and I’m on the e-library waiting list for the sequel, The Mystery Guest. I love the neurodivergent narrator/main character, Molly the maid, her sense of vocation to restore cleanliness and order, and the delight she feels in restoring her assigned rooms at the Regency Grand to ā€œa state of perfection.ā€

I loved the maid too! and thanks, I didn’t know there was a sequel :sunny:

I just finished The Mystery Guest. I didn’t like it as much as The Maid, but it was still a fun read.

I enjoyed both equally! I’m guessing we’ll see a third book in a year or so.

If you like The House in the Cerulean Sea, you might like Lily and the Octopus. I just started reading again and filled up Goodreads with options and this is the first one I finished.

My husband keeps suggestion that we watch the ā€œAll the Light We Cannot Seeā€ movie. But I’ve heard so many people rave about the book.. I should read book first, right?

Read the book first - always - before watching any move/screen adaptation of a book.

Yes. Particularly since I found the adaptation unwatchable

I read the book and saw the series. I loved the book. Enough time had passed between reading and watching (years) that I could enjoy the show. My husband only saw the show and liked it.

I hadn’t read it since it came out, but H has reread many times. I was confused because it didn’t seem to be matching how I remembered it, and H was totally put off. We only watched the first episode.

It would probably be better as a just a show, not a remake of a book. Maybe don’t read the book first. Then read it for the magnificent writing.
