Oh, yes, Seven Husbands is my top favorite of Reid’s, along with Daisy Jones and The Six.

Has anyone read Among the Bros? Amazon picked it for me, and it looks like it’d be of interest to folks here (true crime/southern frat), so curious if anyone here (whom I consider to be reliable!) has a thumbs up or thumbs down on it.

Currently reading “100 Years of Solitude” by Gabriel García Márquez. Great book if you want to have to pick apart the “true meaning” of the storyline. Not my all-time favorite just because of how complex it is but I can’t deny its greatness.

My all-time favorite has to be “All Quiet on the Western Front” by Erich Maria Remarque. It’s a war novel that just seems to hit differently in my opinion. I know Netflix made a movie and it’s high up on my watchlist but I don’t think there is much prose more beautiful than what Remarque exhibited here. It truly showcased how important friendship was and how utterly wasteful/useless that entire conflict (WW1) was. Emotional rollercoaster the entire way through.

If you enjoyed the Rosie Project books:

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned the book Cassandra in Reverse by Holly Smale.

Beautifully written, it is a book of neurodivergence + time travel, a very interesting combination.

I just finished listening to it on a 10+ hour round trip to see my Dad, and it was the perfect way to while away the time spent driving. At times hilarious, at other times heartbreaking and profound, it really gave me insight into the mind and life of someonewho is “different” and doesn’t know why or what to do with that. Highly recommend.

I am so enjoying Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club books. If you like Louise Penny’s books, you will probably enjoy these. Light fun murder…

I just finished The Sentence by Louise Erdrich. I did not care for it at all. It seems like it took on too many topics and did none of them justice. It took me three weeks and I really had to force myself to finish. I was sure somehow it was all going to have a point.

Nrsb4 - based on your recommendation started Cassandra in Reverse. Love it!

Loved “The Sentence”. Highly recommend it! Louise Erdrich is right up there with Barbara Kingsolver to me.

I’m working on a bit of an obscure Irish book right now. It’s just ok so I won’t recommend it. I read a lot of random books because I volunteer at our public library.

I’ve got “Blacktop Wasteland” by SA Cosby up soon. Maybe next.

We had a really good discussion of Erdrich’s The Round House which we read for the CC Bookclub in October 2014. It didn’t tempt me to read more of her books though!

I just finished Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty. I really loved it. I was talking to D3 and she said that she loved it too.

I just read “Family Family” by Laurie Frankel. Adoption and family, with shifts in time. Pandemic handled naturally and without too much focus. Overall well done (four stars from me on goodreads).

I love Laurie Frankel and am on Chapter One of Family Family. My favorite was This Is How It Always Is.

I enjoyed Tom Lake which I read after recommendations here. I’m not sure if I’ve read anything else by Ann Patchett and will be adding her to my list. A hint for those who don’t like to buy books: I was way down on the list for both Tom Lake and Heaven And Earth Grocery Store from my local public library both physical copy and Libby ebook. I remembered I have a community borrower card for the nearby university which has a small popular reading collection. I found both books there. Score! Apparently college students don’t have time to read or favor audio books .

I liked that took, too. It is coming along this year sometime as a mini-series on Apple TV.

State of Wonder is my all time favorite Ann Patchett. Then Truth and Beauty which is her memoir of her friendship with the poet Lucy Grealy. I think a lot of her books are just meh but I really liked those two. I’ve never read Bel Canto though which is also supposed to be great.

Many thanks to those who wrote about Between Two Kingdoms. It isn’t my usual murder mystery thriller, but just wow. I loved it completely.

I liked Bel Canto better than State of Wonder. Who knows, you might too!

I loved Bel Canto too!

Bel Canto was the first Ann Patchett book I read and the reason I kept coming back to her other stuff. I’m almost afraid it won’t hold up if I go back to it now, but I still consider it my favorite. Kind of like Barbara Kingsolver and The Poisonwood Bible.
