On my list now!
Coming back in to say that All the Colors of the Dark is to date, my favorite book of 2024. I listened on Audible. I would recommend it for fans of Barbara Kingsolver and William Kent Krueger. Beautiful story telling.
@CA2MA glad to hear you enjoyed it. I loved his novel We Begin at the End and am looking forward to this one. By the time I knew he had a new book out, the wait list was very long! I have the audiobook and the kindle version on hold thru Libby/my library but am like six weeks out for both versions.
Itâs worth the wait! I got impatient and used one of my Audible credits
I just finished reading
Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe.
A true story of murder and memory in Northern Ireland.
Not a light read but nonetheless very readable and interesting and pretty illuminating re people and events I remember but had little framework to make sense of. Also very interesting to find out how Boston College became involved. Recommend it!
I loved SayNothing! But donât ever find other people who have read it so this post made me happy
Currently reading Prophet Song â wow, and wow again. But not a very happy book
Another fan of Say Nothing. I read it about five years ago. I found it so informative about this awful period in Northern Irelandâs history. Not an âeasyâ read due to the subject matter but thought it was very good and well researched.
Iâm always representing the light and breezy books⊠Just finished One Last Summer by Kate Spencer (a newer release) and am currently really enjoying My Husbandâs Wives by Faith Hogan.
I highly recommend Molly Molloy and the Angel of Death. I might have learned about it here in March 2023âif so, thank you! Either way, itâs an unusual and creative book.
Just finished Killers of a Certain Age. Really great writing, creative and imaginative. (I hope).
Highly recommend.
So, what did ypu think? A novel coming of age story, no?
@gardenstategal , Thank you for the recommendation! It engrossed me ⊠such unusual characters, and such deep feeling! (I, too, recommend The Book of Goose.)
I never read anything Everett wrote, but my several people in my writing group recommended his new book, James. I just started it yesterday. Everett is reimagining Mark Twainâs Huckleberry Finn in this one. So far, Iâm enjoying it.
Based on liking âA Man Called Oveâ (Fredrick Backman) and recommendation by Fallgirl and others I got on waiting list for of âBeartownâ (same author). Just finished it⊠tough story, but very well written. Listened to audio version. Found it a little confusing me at first with so many hockey players and other characters, but so glad I stuck with it. I will pick up the. âUs against youâ sequel at the library this week.
Not nearly as good.
Hereâs an overview, without spoilers. It takes place in Sweden, but it feels like it could have been in rural New England or in Canada Beartown (Beartown, #1) by Fredrik Backman | Goodreads
I have read all of his books. I really like Anxious People - a stand alone book (the bear town series is 3 books and the last one is very long)
If you like Ove check out The Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysett, a similar type of story only with a female protagonist.
Just an fyi. There are two Fredrik Backman kindle books for $1.99: My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You Sheâs Sorry and Britt-Marie Was Here.
I just read Let Us Descend and holy stromboli - thatâs a great book. Heavy but so beautifully written, riveting, and thought provoking.
@Bromfield2 - I had to catch up and just saw your post from 2023 about the Dennis Lehane. That was a hard read butâŠI couldnât put it down. And Iâm menopausal and full of meno-rage so that bad-a$$ mom resonated with me.
For those who read and loved Deanna Raybournâs Killers of a Certain Age, the next book, Kills Well With Others, will be out March 11, 2025.
