One of the best books I've read in the last 6 months is .

Wow, I read twice as many on the reader’s choice list - 52! Much better list in my opinion.

Me too, almost twice as many! And a few that I thought would have been on the other list (A Little Life, Shuggie Bain).

Looks like I have read 28 on this list versus 11 on the first one.

I read 21 from the first list and 55 from the Readers’ Choice list (I read nine of the top 10 on that list). There are many on both lists that have been on my TBR list for a while. So many books, not enough time!

I just finished Claire North’s House of Odysseus, the sequel to Ithaca. It somehow manages to retell the whole story from Penelope’s experience without lecturing, is incredibly vivid and surprisingly funny. Would make a terrific mini series, but now I have to wait until February for the third and final book to come out in paperback!

I have read 43 of those!

I did not like Normal People by Sally Rooney. Disliked the main characters.

45 from the Reader’s Choice list.

Wow—this just confirmed that I don’t like most books that other people do. I read and enjoyed 15. I started and couldn’t finish (or finished but didn’t like) another 15. No wonder my friends and family have stopped recommending books to me . :slightly_frowning_face:

If you liked Life After Life, I’d start with Pachinko, Station Eleven, Bel Canto , Americanah, and Persepolis. Maybe The Known World as well – all great storytelling.

I think everyone in the country should read The New Jim Crow. Talk about well researched facts presented to our faces!

Many of the books that I read on the list were because of the CC Book Club. I am so grateful to have read the books I have read because of the Book Club.

Me too–I’ve read way more books on the reader’s best list. Many of the books I read on that list were books I read for my book club.

Yeah, I’ve read exactly 3 x more off the readers choice list. 39 vs. 13.

I’d read 24 (vs 14) on the second list. Neither list includes what I think was the best sci fi novel of the decade - though Fifth Season was very good.

Twenty two vs. 9 for me. I think my tastes are a bit less sophisticated than the books on these two lists. I like mysteries and true crime and those make up most of my kindle library.

I loved House! Read it when it first came out, and should read it again. So exciting that you found THE House.

So you caught my attention: what do you think is the best sci-fi novel of the decade?

So glad you share my enthusiasm!!

Did you see my previous post with a link to a large number of photos from the airbnb listing?

Somewhere Beyond the Sea is delightful, and I really enjoyed TJ Junes Klune’s dedication and acknowledgements. I’m a little bummed I didn’t listen to the audiobook for the voices.
