One of the best books I've read in the last 6 months is .

I read Swamplandia too, based on your post. Maybe we should start a book club thread so I can ask all the questions I was left with!

Hello,
I like lots of different books:
I like a lot Agatha Christie’s books because they’re really interesting, all the time you may think something happened and something different happens and it’s really interesting to understand, then, why and how it happened.
I also liked a lot The Da Vinci Code from Dan Brown, it’s also a really interesting book, I like these books in which the characters solve a mistery.
I also like to read books about World War II so I liked to read The Diary of a Young Girl (Anne Frank) which is the diary Anne Frank a jewish wrote while she was living in the World War II and The Book Thief from Markus Zusak that is a story about a girl that lived in this period, it’s not true but lots of things that happen in the book really happened in real life.
I also like so much Sophie’s World from Jostein Gaarder, it’s a book about the history of philosophy, I didn’t finish already but I’m almost finishing the book and when I finish I’ll read the other Jostein Gaarder’s books.
I also like to read books in other languages, some books made to learners of languages and others made to native speakers of the languages.
I love to read, so that are just some of the books I liked and I’m looking forward to reading much more.
I hope I gave you some tips, I’m going to try to read this book you recommended because it seems to be interesting to me,
Thanks,
BrunaHarvard.

I’m currently re-reading Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle. Read it in HS, I think, and it is more amazing than I recalled!

The Lacuna by Barbara Klingslover (or any of her books)

The House at Riverton by Kate Morton. Loved this novel. Enjoyed how she moved from the past (early 1900s) to the present to unfold the story. A friend recently introduced me to Kate Morton’s books and I am trying to read some of her older ones ā€œin betweenā€.

The Book Thief (my apologies if anyone has already mentioned this book). It’s very well written. I happen to love historical fiction.

I’m in the middle of The Wednesday Sisters and am loving it.

The Orchid Thief

Just finished Secret Daugher by Shilpi Somaya Gowda
I thought it was wonderful. Moving between India and California it is totally captivating. Highly recommend it.

** Bones, Blood and Butter ** Gabrielle Hamilton’s memoir, about her journey becoming renown chef and restauranteur .

The Book Thief was one of my favorites too (as a fan of historical fiction).

Shanghai Girls was really well written too, (author Lisa See). Historical fiction that follows sisters as they immigrate to the US.

^^^

Dreams of Joy picks up right where Shanghai Girls ends. If you liked Shanghai Girls, grab its sequel.

Just re-read Persuasion after a number of years. It’s still wonderful.

Persuasion is my favorite Jane Austen.

I second Dreams of Joy. Excellent choice.

Will pick up Dreams of Joy…so glad to hear there is a sequel.

I just finished this book: [Amazon.com:</a> Who in This Room: The Realities of Cancer, Fish, and Demolition (9780934971126): Katherine Malmo: Books](<a href=ā€œhttp://www.amazon.com/Who-This-Room-Realities-Demolition/dp/0934971129/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317746567&sr=8-1]Amazon.com:ā€>http://www.amazon.com/Who-This-Room-Realities-Demolition/dp/0934971129/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317746567&sr=8-1)
about a young woman’s experiences with inflammatory breast cancer (she was 31). Sounds depressing, but oh-so-NOT-depressing. And the writing is a real pleasure, not a single wasted word.

Hello,
Now I have already finished reading ā€œSophie’s Worldā€ and I’m still really looking forward to reading other Jostein Gaarder’s books but yesterday I finished reading ā€œThe boy in the striped pyjamas: a fableā€ from John Boyne and I really recommend this book and ā€œSophie’s Worldā€.The second book is a story about a boy who lived in the World War II. Both are really good from the beginnig until the ending.
Thanks,
BrunaHarvard.

itslfs–I just finished Secret Daughter! I was in tears at the end…such a good book.
