One of the best books I've read in the last 6 months is .

I second “The Chaperone” by Moriarty: wonderful language in addition to unexpected twists.

Anyone here read “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn?

After finishing my re-reading of “Mill on the Floss” I read “Tim Gunn’s Golden Rules”. You have to be a fan of Project Runway, and it won’t move you profoundly but I was amused and found some stuff useful. He is very big on manners and civility and how our society is losing both.

I just finished Gone Girl…

Gone Girl is my book club’s book next month. Did you like it?

About Fairy Tale Interrupted … Some of the online reviews say that the book doesn’t show any unflattering sides of JFK jr. but I disagree - it shows he WAS human like FallGirl stated and he could have mood swings, angry outbursts, etc. But of course, RoseMarie loved him dearly so she also writes about how wonderful he was to her. Read for yourself - don’t wanna spoil it!

Ignatius - It took me like 4 hours to read it. I couldn’t stop reading it and it’s only about 250 pgs? I think .

I have thoughts on Gone Girl but don’t want to give anything away. I enjoyed reading it.

Just started Gone Girl - intriguing so far…

Two thumbs up for Gone Girl. It is a great beach read!

loved gone girl…mentioned it a while back—glad to see some others joining in on a great read!

followed it up with sharp objects…

I don’t know if anyone mentioned it already but “Misterioso” by Arne Dahl was a great read

Oh goodie. Glad to hear so many here enjoyed Gone Girl. Just put it on my Kindle.

I wouldn’t have picked up Gone Girl but like sewhappy I picked it up at Costco today.

To those who have read “Gone Girl”: some readers try to avoid stories containing violence, especially violence against women. Is this a book they would want to steer clear of?

I just read “Bond Girl” by Erin Duffy. Fun fast read. Duffy is actually a Georgetown grad who worked on Wall St for 10 years. Very enjoyable.

Just finished The Orphan Master’s Son. Fascinating novel set in North Korea, a pretty dismal place from the description in the book. I read that the author (a Stanford professor) traveled to N. Korea to do background research.

I liked Fairytale Interrupted, but didn’t it seem like there was a bit too much profanity? It was distracting.

I was a little confused by the mention of her ex boyfriend being in a relationship with Pearl Jams manager, as far as I know he has been married/straight for decades. I also thought it was really cute she wouldn’t go backstage without John. I’ve met a few of the band members, quite a bit actually as we live in the same area, and I would guess they would have loved to have met her even without JFK jr. Oh well.

I took more than a day to read it. I really enjoyed the descriptions of John & Carolyn, they were so full of life! I also knew what was coming and I wanted to put that off. :frowning:

emerald, glad you like the book! I’m used to profanity and probably curse way too much in real life, haha, so I didn’t really notice. RoseMarie’s loyalty to JFK JR was amazing.

emeraldykity & Writer1992, for another view on JFK Jr and Carolyn, read “What Remains” by Carole Radziwill. She was married to John’s cousin and best friend, Anthony Radziwill. Anthony was dying of cancer and John was beginning to work on the eulogy he expected to give at Anthony’s funeral when he & Carolyn died. It’s primarily about her journey as Anthony’s caregiver, but shows a lovely caring and supportive side of Carolyn and John. For anyone who has been a caregiver/manager for someone who is dying, this book rings very true.

I really enjoyed *The Light Between Oceans *by M.L. Stedman. An Australian WWI veteran who is now a lighthouse keeper brings his young bride back to an islolated island in the 1920s. After suffering several pregnancy losses, they discover a drifting boat with a baby inside and the wife wants to keep it. It made me wonder what I would do in the same situation.

I just read The Book Thief which is young adult fiction, but excellent for adults as well.
