Online Home Furnishings

One other thought I had for a transitional aesthetic-- [Sisal Rugs | Custom Area Rugs | Natural Area Rugs](http://www.sisalrugs.com/)
They make their rugs to order and have lots of choices for weave, material and bindings. They will send samples for a nominal charge. I had them make a square rug for one room and it really gives a much more custom look than a standard 8 x 10 or 11 x 14. I’d like to order another, smaller one for a balcony. If you figure out what you want you can then wait for a “deal” (%age off, free shipping); there will probably be something for Presidents’ Day.

Thomas Moser is high end quality - not cheap! We used to use them when I worked for an interior designer. We got our bedside tables from somewhere online that I think of as pretty lowend (Home Decorators?) They’re well made and have held up for 10 years with no issues at all. I’d love to hear more about Wayfair - so far they are the only ones who make the kitchen table I want. (I want one as big as an island, but not an island so I don’t have to electrify it.) Like this but I hate the color: [John Boos American Heritage Harvest Kitchen Island with Butcher Block Top | Wayfair](<a href=“John Boos American Heritage Harvest Table & Reviews | Wayfair”>John Boos American Heritage Harvest Table & Reviews | Wayfair)

Thanks so much for all the feedback. I’m looking for a variety of things: area rugs, bar stools, lamps, ottomans, media cabinet, decorative accessories. One room (smallish media room) has been completely empty since we moved into the house last March, because I wanted to take my time to decide how to go in there. I finally bought a beautiful sectional, so I’m ready to fill in the rest of the room. And then just want to buy a piece here and there for the rest of the house.

I hate clothes shopping, but I love to look at home furnishing stores, antique shops, online sites, and I can literally get lost in Houzz.com if I let myself. And let’s not forget HGTV.

Our Audio visual guy put in these keypads at the entrance to our master bedroom and family room. Hit one button as you walk in, and the TV comes on to HGTV. Hit another button, and the TV comes on automatically to ESPN. You can figure out which channel belongs to which person, lol.

Nrdsb4, Do you know who makes that? It sounds cool. I really like the Lutron lighting systems that allow you to preset for different “scenes”, e.g. when you’re working in the kitchen, using it for entertainment, etc. I have Houzz on my bookmark bar with ideabooks for our current house and the one we want to build.

Mathmom, I don’t know about the islands but John Boos has been making beautiful, high quality cutting boards since at least the 60s.

ETA, Here is their website–
http://www.johnboos.com/product_group.asp?s=r&grp=JBC0053</a>
They have quite a few choices for table bases and thirteen colors.

I just looked up our Moser bed, which we bought almost thirty years ago. We should have invested our retirement savings in furniture.

Nrdsb4 - if you do decide to purchase from any of the catalogs, let us know on the thread (or PM me if this thread slips down) because I get almost daily emails from a lot of these places with discounts/coupons. Got one today from Ballard that was 15% off storewide and free standard shipping.

I think it’s MyControl4 system, or something like that. You can work TV, stereo, lights, etc., with your iphone or ipad, too, in addition to hand remotes and wall pads.

Every once in awhile, I like to use my phone to mess with the lights in DH’s office while he’s up there working at night. I’m immature.

I have purchased rugs and furniture from Curran and been very pleased with both their products and customer service.

Do you ever find yourself spending an inordinate amount of time trying to find ONE elusive item?

I need a white, tailored queen bedskirt. Sounds easy, right? NO. I need it with a 16 " drop, which apparently is very odd. I have found 2. One is $285. The other is $35, but it is on ebay, which I’ve never used before. I’m just worried about getting what I ordered and not having future problems with my credit card. Never used paypal, etc. I’m wary as it is since I did use my credit card at Target during the hacked period.

Thanks for the link to Boos - oddly, I’d actually bookmarked them for countertops a long time ago and missed the carts! I was in a display room today that had some of their stuff to look at.

I’ve been trying to find a cocktail table to use outside with my 1960s era butterfly chairs. (I found the chairs in a junk dealer’s barn for $5 a piece. I did need to have them sandblasted and repainted.) I’ve been trying to find one I liked for a couple years.

Nrdsb4 - did you ever consider hiring a seamstress to make one for you? You’d get exactly what you want.

LOL, that would be too easy, wouldn’t it? :o

I was just thinking, if you’re going to spend almost $300, then you might be able to get it custom-made for the same price (or even less - said from someone who knows nothing about having things custom-made).

LOL, John Boos products from the Wayfair site are now following me around the internet…that is certainly better than when I looked up how to do a hotel room bed bug check and ads for exterminators and bed bug removal paraphernalia popped up for a week.

Nrdsb4, have a look at the Country Curtains website. They carry some good basics including bed skirts in different lengths. They also make some custom items.

^^^^Thank you, will do!

This one from Pottery Barn has a 16 inch drop: [Cameron Organic Matelasse Daybed Skirt | Pottery Barn](http://www.potterybarn.com/products/cameron-organic-metalasse-daybed-skirt/?pkey=cbed-skirts&cm_src=bed-skirts||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_--_-)

Oh, rats. I was looking at the drop, and didn’t realize that it was only for a day bed. Sorry.

You got me all excited, and then pulled the rug out from under me, blackeyedsusan. :(

But thanks for trying. :D

I got excited for you too! Perhaps you could buy one with an 18 inch drop and then get it hemmed 2 inches?

If you are looking for accessories and accent pieces, try MyHabit. You have to check every day, but they often have amazing stuff. Besides clothes and shoes, I have bought lamps, chandeliers, art and more. Really nice quality.
