Kate is a smart young lady - she wears Wolford. I doubt that she would have started the trend if all she had access to was some cheap pantyhose. The quality of pantyhose and tights makes a huge difference in the fit and comfort, as MomLive says.

Smart and rich - aren’t Wolford pantyhose at least $40/pair?

I’m not rich, so I buy mine on sale or at TJMaxx for $20/pair, and they last 20X longer than other tights. And oh so comfortable. I still have pairs that I 3 years ago and have worn and washed many times. At less than $1 per wear, they are worth even the full price.

I wear panty-hose every day. I actually prefer control top - but - panty hose are getting more and more scarse. My favorite brand is Lleggs Silky something. They last a long time and are not itchy. BUT since the store was completely out, I turned to an emergency pair of No Nonsense that I had in my drawer. They only cost 99 cents… there is no control top and they fit great. Not too itchy and they are lasting a lot longer than I thought they would. So if you can’t afford those $20-$40 tights, I would definitely try the No Nonsense tights. If the panty hose are comfortable I would think the tights would be too.

^^ BunsenBurner,
What brand are you referring to? Can you give specific info on these. And are they tights are pantyhose?

I have a few pair of pantyhose (control top, sigh) for when I need to ‘dress up’, but my daily outfits are based around long skirts and microfiber tights. I don’t have any specific brand of microfiber tights that I like, just whatever’s on sale at the shoe store near my house. :)

Microfiber tights are more expensive, but they last longer: mine don’t run like nylons, and I can wash them a zillion times before they lose their shape.

bookreader, that’s Wolford pantyhose and tights I was talking about (Falke is my other favorite brand, but very few stores here carry it).

^^ Thanks. I’ll have to keep my eye out for that brand. I’d never heard of them before.

On a side note…

Watching a woman put on pantyhose is one of the most amusing things you will ever see.

Now back to the discussion…

I strongly second Bunsen’s suggestion of Wolford tights. They are incredibly comfortable and they last a very long time - well worth the extra price in cost per wearing. I like them because they do not bind at the waist, and they don’t work their way down either, if you know what I mean.

This model is the old standby, but they have a large selection of tights and leggings in various weights and patterns:
