@BunsenBurner How much do progressives with the bells and whistles run from Costco? I’ve been putting of my new glasses because last time I got them at my optometrist’s office, they were over $500, even with VSP. I need to find time to get to Costco to price it out.
Progressives at Costco have cost us anywhere from $209 to $229. These were not designer frames, but still pretty nice ones.
Bells and whistles ran around $250 for me last year after 9.5% sales tax. Progressive, transitions, high index. They also often have discounts where you can get a second pair at a nice discount.
WOW~ so much better than my doctor’s office! I think I was in the $600 range last time, not even getting the frames I really wanted to save money! Maybe I’ll actually splurge for sunglasses!! I’m going to get there this week and see. Thanks!

Glasses, progressives no transition $189
Sunglasses, progressives $219
When I had vision insurance, I still paid $400+ for my glasses! I will always go to Costco from now on. This alone is worth the danged membership!
I got my two pairs at ostco for~$400. There was a “buy one, get one $40 off” deal going on. Transition and progressive, one pair. The other is sun glasses.
Progressives, nice frame, 1.67 high index, all the coatings, just not get transitions. $250 at Costco, I paid $700 about 3 years ago for similar at Pearle.
I’m so excited to go to Costco!!! And so annoyed that I’ve been living without sunglasses for so long!!!
@NJWrestlingmom To me, prescription sunglasses are the greatest thing since sliced bread as I no longer wear contact lenses.
To the Costco customers–do they work directly with your vision insurance or must you pay out of pocket and file for reimbursement? The latter is what they told me years ago and I did not want to deal with the hassle.
@JazzyTXMom almost sure that they work with VSP directly now as an out-of-network provider. Actually if I’m not mistaken, VSP has some Costco-only benefit pricing as well.
Don’t be afraid of progressives at Zenni.
@NJWrestlingmom - IIRC, under $300. Transition lenses (the darkening kind), no line progressives, lightweight Zegna frame, thinnest possible poly lens (-7, high index). That was about 2 years ago. Then we said we had VSP, and that took $120 off. They just asked for SSN to look up the plan, and the savings were instant with VSP.
