^ my plans for today.
Maybe.
A binge, if not a marathon.
âI was born a poor black child.â Anyone else remember that reference?"
WonderingâŠwas that Robert Downeyâs character, Lazarus, that was convinced he was black, in Tropic Thunder? âI know who I am. Iâm the dude playinâ the dude, disguised as the other dude!â
That is such an awful movie. But itâs impossible not to laugh hysterically through much of it.
âI was born a poor black childâ - Steve Martin in âThe Jerk.â (I thought I remembered the movie correctly, but I had to google it to make sure. It came out when I was a HS senior.)
^^^MaineLonghorn beat me to it!
â#AskRachel If a black person snatches something from you is it your purse or your edges?â
âIf church starts promptly at 9am, you can expect to be out A) by 11am B) by 12pm C) by 1pm D) at the end of evening service. #AskRachelâ
AskRachel on Twitter. No chill whatsoever. =))
I literally had to turn my phone off, Twitter was going in! Some of the memes and tweets were so clever.
@busdriver11 Most are upset because she lied. We love to have Whites partake in our civil rights organizations, she would be even more helpful because she probably has more association with other whites. Heck, I dont care if she appropriated our hair either, but she took it a step too far, tanning, and lying about being Black. Not too mention if she accepted a scholarship at the Mecca under the guise of being Black.
This is really another topic, but I find it funny that we were really never held up as a standard of beauty by the mainstream. Our lips were too big, our butts were too big, etc⊠Now butt implants have supplanted breast implants as the number 1 plastic surgery, and dont get me started on the lip injections.
âI canât imagine that anyone cares one single bit about what culture she identifies with. I personally donât even have an issue with her remaking herself over to appear black, people are free to do what they choose.â
As a good friend whose roots are Eastern European and Jewish used to say, âthatâs mighty white of you.â
She also claimed to be Native American, born in a teepee, and hunted with bow and arrow to survive.
No Scholarme, her tribal ancestors stood on the banks of the Columbia and caught salmon for dinner with nets. LOL.
But, but, but Granny had those high cheekbones! Of course she should benefit from affirmative action.
How much African ancestry is required to be considered black?
Just wondering after hearing about DNA results from friends.
âShe also claimed to be Native American, born in a teepee, and hunted with bow and arrow to survive.â
This is going to all end up being late night comedy show fodder. Sheâll be with Brian Williams and Neil Armstrong, taking the first steps on the moon.
I donât know that we all can assume she got the job or the full scholarship because she lied about putting âblackâ as part of her racial makeup. I mean, Howard University doesnât need to attract black applicantsâŠitâs more likely she got a scholarship because of her white background (or the Native American which her parents say they have in some amount in their ancestry) or she got a scholarship because her artistic talent was exceptional.
And saying she is black may or may not have been a factor in getting the adjunct position in EWU. There may not have been many applicants applying to be an adjunct African-American studies professor position in Eastern Washington. Or she actually had sufficient credentials for the job regardless of slipping âblackâ into her application.
The bigger problem is the ongoing misrepresentation of her parentage, her early childhood, her black âson.â
I also wonder how people feel about her, not really being black, writing blog posts about going to the movies as a black person and other aspects of the black experience.
Is there going to be Iggy Azalea type backlash?
Bobcat Goldthwaite; a persecuted Black man!
Jazzymom, donât you think she became president of the NAACP chapter because she represented herself as a black woman?
Iâm saying that I donât know that that is the definitive reason she became president.
I would have to know more about the years of involvement and work she put in before she became president and what the rest of the community and the board thought about her work and involvement. It is possible that had everyone known she was white she would have gotten the position anyway due to whatever her experience and connections were in the organization, which right now are unknown. I imagine weâll hear a ton more in the next few days.
Reported statements from at least one Spokane NAACP member indicate that members were aware of her backstory.
I suppose it is hard to know at this point, if claiming to be black actually did contribute to her employment or scholarship. Then again, itâs kind of like lying about your SAT scores. Would you have still gotten the goodies if you admitted your 2400 score was actually 1750? Who is to know except for those who made the decision?
However, Iâm pretty sure the NAACP is not going to be too pleased with the misrepresentation. Having a liar and a deceiver as their local president looks pretty bad. Many unsubstantiated claims of hate crimes Is offensive (and illegal) too. If you are lying about something as basic as your race and your past, will people believe anything you say?
âIgloo Australia ran so she could fly.â
Mmm, yes, and these attributes are all great and desire until it occurs on a black person. I donât have enough tea for this conversation at the moment.
In regards to âHow much black is considered black topicâ, Iâm fine with people identifying with whatever culture runs in their family. Itâs great. Everyone should try to learn about their ancestors and elders, but what I donât care for is when people start to identify with a particular âraceâ/âethnicityâ only when it benefits them and abandons it when times get rough. This is my personal viewpoint. Like, how are you going to take pride in your heritage, but be quiet when itâs not so great and deny youâre a part of that group?
"Like, how are you going to take pride in your heritage, but be quiet when itâs not so great and deny youâre a part of that group? " ALA Ben Affleck?
This story fascinates me. Itâs one thing attempting to change what you are but for the love of all that is holy-- STOP TRYING TO CHANGE WHAT YOU WERE.
