Unless she’s been straightening her hair to a silky smooth mane in her childhood pictures,
I’m going to assume she has chemically treated her hair or wear wigs and weaves (most likely). Someone on Tumblr found a wig that look like her dark brown one with medium brown highlights. Who knows if it’s the one she has, but from the range of her hairstyles I wouldn’t be surprised if she wore wigs and weaves.
Tomboy is not a gender, tomboy is a type of gender expression, while a ‘girly girl’ is another kind of expression, but both of those people identify as a woman. A feminine gay male still identifies as a male, a butch gay woman still id’s as a woman (I am talking about those who see themselves as binary, I realize some people presenting differently feel to be different gendered/mixed gender/no gender). The problem with this is it reduces gender down to constructs, things taught, and that simply isn’t true. I have heard arguments that if there was no gender differentiation with clothing and such, transgender women wouldn’t exist, because there wouldn’t be frilly clothing and heels and such to play dress up in, it reduces gender down to being what you wear, what people tell you is appropriate, and it simply isn’t true. Arguing that gender identity is a construct is like the arguments that sexual orientation is ‘chosen’ or learned, and fails for a very simply reason, that the studies and facts have pretty much come to the conclusion that both have strongly inate characteristics to them, determined by biology rather than environment. How that gender plays out may or may not be inate, some is definitely a construct, other things are not more than likely.
O.K, this story has officially entered the categories of ‘it’s a weird world’ and ‘Stranger than fiction.’
Well, at least the report of the dismissed lawsuit clears up the presumption about whether or not Howard officials knew she was white, so you can toss out any accusations that she fraudulently obtained a scholarship. But otherwise, it seems that Ms. Dolezal is a goof-ball, and quite possibly has fabricated all the incidents of racial discrimination, hate mail, etc.
I wonder if the civil rights community knew that she tried to sue Howard U? By the way, it’s not like there were no whites at Howard. For years the law school at Howard had a sizable number of whites in the student body (heck, the former Governor of N. Carolina earned his J.D. from NC Central University, an HBCU), including former D.C. City Council President David Clarke.
I wonder what set Ms. Dolezal off on this path? Maybe Niquii is on to something; Dolezal lost her case to a black organization and then decided that being black was the way to go? I wonder what Professor Andrew Hacker would think of her? Gawd, this story is surely headed to a Hollywood production. Ellen DeGeneres will be cast as Dolezal, because she’s such a good dancer, you know.
Ha! A Hollywood production? It would be yet another cherry on top of all this whipped cream. Perhaps, she’d get an honorable mention in the movie and zero profits, considering she despise white people who profit off of black stories.
Denzel Washington’s line from the movie ‘Malcom X’ keeps running through my mind (even though I am not uber upset about Dolezal); “you been hoodwinked, led astray, bamboozled…sold a bill of goods!” LOL.
I found the tweet using a link from a NY Times article.
“Eastern Washington University has not said whether she also did so in obtaining her teaching post. Dave Meany, a university spokesman, said on Monday she was hired as an instructor quarter by quarter, with the spring quarter just ended, and “as far as what happens next, that’ll be up to the director of the program” in Africana studies. The director, Scott Finnie, could not be reached for comment.”
The NY Times article also contains a link to a Spokane newspaper reporting that her conduct on the police ombudsman committee was being investigated even before the race issue exploded.
I have to disagree, it’s not even a really good fake Turner. I do master copies all the time. It’s a great way to learn technique. But I would NEVER pass off one of my master copies as an original work of art.
I’m doing a Jacob Van Ruisdael right now. Any takers?
Based on my little knowledge of the art world and affinity for being impressed by the simplest of artistic feats along with what I’ve heard, she can paint and is talented.
But unless this was for a course or exhibit where you were supposed to copy an art piece, why would she recreate someone else’s work and claim it as her own?
@musicamusica I’ll start the bidding at $2,000. The name sounds fancy so I know it’ll be good.
