Just got home late last night. Get ready for an action packed busy day one. I am high energy kind of person and i can tell you - the day will be fun, informative and long! The sessions overall are excellent. we only left one to go to bookstore shopping that was the fininacial aid session. we completed required fafsa months ago, and are from oos so bright future doesn’t apply to us.

What impressed me most? The extensive program planning. The staff and speakers were able to convey sincere care and make FSU a large school seem like a small caring community. the student leaders were bright, happy, and dedicated to the task at hand. there is one session eve of day one where they perform student skits. i would have thought each of them was a drama major. the skits dealt with typical some serious issues students will go thru. I think skits were an excellent format and way to present the info.I filled out the survey as requested but I will take the time today to also write a few emails to provide them with feedback.

my son as an oos new yorker knew no one there. many students attending did have someone even roommate with them that they knew. he said that he knew he had to be the one to introduce himself. he did said it wasn’t always easy but he did it and received friendly response from everyone. so some advie for students going solo as hard as it may be – try to smile and introduce yourself to as many people as you can. You do also travel with a group making it easier to break in.roomates are not put in the same orientation groups. he had a nice mellow roommate said they talked abit at night. i asked him what he liked and disliked he said meeting people was on top and getting up early was on bottom. also we had an early flight on day one and he had not gotten much sleeep night before. belive me try to be well rested when you arrive since between the info brain load and late night early rise you will be tired. (of course he didnt listen to me but i pass this advice along if you follow it you will be happy you did :0)

tour on morning of day two. many parents asked tourguides if the tour was the same as when they visited. well it is a shorter version. a few opted not to go. my h and i went and we met a nice couple and chatted with them. i also spoke with one of the two tour guides who had been in a Q and A panel the day before, I followed up and had her clarify some info. so in addition to a nice walk it allows you to chat even if you already know the general tour script. we also sat down a t a table during lunch and met some folks over lunch on day one.

Before i go i will say that as a CC board member you will know more than most. It is amazing what a resource this BOard is. The advice and posts I Have read over the past year from the veterans (P2N, Cybermom, coachmom ) made me better prepared, more comfortable and even able to help some others…so go noles and go CC!
