@2kidsinky, congrats to your daughter on her Kent State decision!
Here’s the link @cougheedog:
@cougheedog did you hear back about your scholarship? I haven’t heard back also and I got accepted the same day as you
@Tinijocaro my son got accepted to RIT, Drexel, Clemson and North Carolina State. Waiting to hear from Chapel Hill. We live in North Carolina. For out of state Drexel is the cheapest with the aid given. Clemson is public South Carolina and North Carolina does not have any agreements with any states for in state tuition.
Thanks for the info on the Family Weekend for 10/13-15 @dbjs70
Looking for cheap airline tix and hotel room NOW.
@TheatreMom74, if you join the Unofficial RIT Parents page on FB there is a ton of good hotel info.
@Yolo0101 The financial aid award just appeared on the portal this morning.
Has anyone not got a response yet? I haven’t got any mail or received any emails yet and I live in NYC. The accepted students day in NYC was Saturday, so I’m kind of worried:/
Is it normal for them to be so late with responses or am I out from luck?
@cougheedog I still haven’t gotten mine. Does that include the scholarship also?
@Yolo0101 It includes merit and need-based awards. It is available online - I haven’t received the snail mail yet.
Ok Tnx. I’m just wondering why my scholarship is taking so long
Quick update about my S. He finally received his official acceptance packet for Engineering exploration yesterday! But, based on having participated in this thread,I knew he was accepted last Wednesday because his financial aid link started to work and he showed as an accepted student on the Loop. Just because they give other options for a major does not mean an automatic acceptance (apparently).
We are going to the accepted student day next Saturday. Hopefully financial aid will be uploaded by then. Can anyone tell me, has the Net Price Calculator been fairly accurate for most of you?
I think it was pretty close for me.
Update on RIT. My son was ultimately accepted into Engineering undeclared instead of ME. We went to the accepted student day today and its now my S’s top choice. We really liked the art component combined with their strong tech influence. The campus was modern, the students were geeky but they owned it. My S loved the Engineering House floor and felt right at home there.
My D has decided on RIT! She LOVED the Women in Engineering overnight event and also enjoyed the Accepted Student day. I think RIT is a great fit for her and couldn’t be happier (other than the loooong distance away…)
My son has one more visit (Virginia Tech) but my personal opinion is RIT fits his quirky style. He loved the Engineering House vibe and the cold weather. Congrats on your daughters decision!
@snoozn - congrats and welcome to the RIT “family.”
@MSMead…we visited VATech for an accepted student’s day last year the week after RIT. My son admitted leaving RIT’s accepted candidates day that he would have put down his deposit had it not been for the lack of marching band.
My wife and I both thought VATech might win just because of the band. His initial impressions were not all that positive - the school is HUGE. We found the marching band’s dedicated practice field which he loved, but it was about as far away from anyplace else he’d need to be on campus while still being on campus. The opening presentation the following morning was awful likely for reasons that you won’t encounter. Needless to say we lasted all of an hour and headed for home
I suspect that if your son liked RIT you may find he has a similar reaction to VATech. Best of luck, and if chooses RIT welcome to the “family.”
My daughter is not a techie but a fine arts student. We went to accepted student day on Saturday and she loved the school. Who knew. I never would have guessed. Its moved up to number one on the list. Love the mix of tech geeks and artists. So many things to do, so many different kinds of people. Only thing holding us back is the distance but looking into planes and trains. My daughter did wear her RIT sweatshirt to school on Monday. That’s a good sign.
Hey guys, I’m right now between Pitt and RIT for EE. I would be glad if anyone can give me some personal opinions.Thank you so much.
Hello all,
Did VirginiaTech Hokie Focus today. RIT wins!
Great VT campus. But, my S didnt feel like it was his “people”. Everyone was nice like they drank hokie water. Campus is fabulous but a bit stepford in his opinion.
