Our Labrador Retriever is afraid of the water

Go, Stella! I’m betting she will ultimately replace swimming with whatever her current favorite activity is. And the thing is, if she’s like our golden, the COLDER the water, the more he likes it. Get ready for toweling off a very wet dog when you’d definitely rather not be
PS It’s worth it, though. I love watching ours swim because watching that kind of joy is so, well, joyous!

I miss my swimming golden retriever :frowning: She too had to be taught how to get into the pool…was never a jumper , but would gladly walk into the ocean or bay and take a swim. she too had to have a job to do and that was to retrieve tennis balls. She would not go in the water unless someone threw one in for her. Poor old gal still hobbled in the last week she was alive, even though she could barely walk
My corgis want nothing to do with the water…thank goodness with those short little legs. I also taught them how to get out of the pool in case they accidentally fell in…what it taught them was to stay as far away as possible :D

We had a yellow lab who didn’t like water at all. It never changed. We now have a labradoodle (lab and standard poodle mix) who can’t stay away from the water.
