Thanks for the update. Did you notice any of the noon time protests on HK Island in the financial district? I think this is about a daily event, but fairly low key and non-disruptive. It sounds like you were focused on Mongkok and Kowloon side, so HKI was probably not on your radar. Any obvious vandalism to MTR stations that you noticed?
We have a printer at home in the US, purchased at one of the HK computer outlets. It didn’t occur to us that the printer ink needed for this Canon would be exclusive to Asia and not available in the US. Grrrrrrrrrr. It wasn’t terribly expensive, but I wouldn’t have schlepped it back in the luggage if I knew I couldn’t use it here. Glad you had success!
I try to not go over to the HK side too much as my hangouts are primary on the Kowloon side. Nothing much happens protest-wise on the weekdays and everyone knew about the big protest that would be happening (last) Sunday. I was gone by then.
As it turned out, I didn’t read my ticket carefully enough, and the returning segment was not a United code-share, so I’m still short one segment to make Premier Gold. Grrrrr… I have to find a one-way flight now for cheap, anywhere on United itself, before the end of the year. I could have paid an extra $108 for the United direct flight instead of the indirect Air Canada flight and I would be good, but stupid me…
Glad you were safe—sounds like time for a short weekend getaway? I try to carefully look at my options. Last year, we upgraded our seats on one segment to economy plus to just hit the requisite $ amount for United silver status. This year we are over but far from gold.
