What waterproof sneakers ir footwear do folks recommend?

Vessi sneakers.

I had a pair of merrell low hiker shoes that I liked. They are pretty worn so I bought a pair of Brooks ghost waterproof sneakers for my most recent trip.

Both are waterproof. The merrells have a little better tread so better footing.

I like both

Line your suitcase with a few sheets of newsprint paper. Crumpled and stuffed into wet shoes, it substantially reduces drying time as it wicks away moisture. Crumpled newspaper saved my new leather Chanel flats when we got soaked by a storm in Paris. The shoes were so wet I was pouring water out of them but were nearly dry the next morning! And weren’t ruined.

I also have Merrell waterproof low hiker/sneakers. I’m on my third pair. I love them!

These duffel bag stories remind me - My husband used to complain when I went to Costco - “You go for groceries you come home with luggage!” (I’m guessing others can relate)
We were getting ready to take our kids on a 2ish week vacation to Hawaii. Costco had these (amazing) large rolling duffel bags for something like $49.00. I think I got two of them. We could take them fully packed, and have our kids take just backpacks (so carry on) and they worked great. Those bags lasted for many years, my husband used them many times, and they saved me when my very expensive suitcase handle broke off right as I was getting ready to load it into the car for a ski trip.

I think these must be the Ful bags we also got from Costco expecting them to last a few trips to Hawaii with kiddos! The bags then traveled to many interesting places when the kids were studying and working abroad! We still have them.

Thanks to this thread, I bought some waterproof Merrill slip on shoes from Amazon. Fingers crossed they fit & I like them or will have to return.

I used to bring my trusty Merrell Moab hiking shoes for rainy days but I recently bought Hoka Clifton 9 GTX waterproof sneakers. Way lighter than Merrells.

Thanks for that suggestion. Will keep it in mind if I don’t like the fit &/or weight of Merrill footwear.

I will go & try on the Hokas (we actually have a store somewhere in Ala Moana, where we are going for lunch on Monday). It’s good to have more than one option, “just in case.“

Join the Hoka “club” - it’s free, but provides 60 day returns. I said “oh cool I’ll wear them around the house for more than 5 minutes!” “Oh no” the sales rep said, “you need to run, walk, whatever in them, or you’ll never know if they fit.” As long as they’re not filled with holes they will take them back. They recycle them. I took them up on the offer. My first pair were a bit pinchy when I went for long walks (but felt fine for 5 minutes like we have to do with other shoes), back they went after 30 days of trying to break them in. The next pair have been perfect! I’m a Mach 6 gal, 8.5 wide. They’re my new favorite shoe.

Hmmm maybe I will join the club and try them out. I have a pair of hokas I dislike and a pair I do like.

I got my daughter waterproof sneakers from the ON brand for her trip to SE Asia during the rainy season. She reported back that they worked very well. They weren’t too thick or bulky.

Ding, Ding, ding.

I have a friend who has a real problem…I think it is probably a “bigger” that extends beyond over packing. Some type of paralyzing indecision problem/issue?? Or poor planning skills??

We went to my cabin for two days. She asked if she needed anything dressy - no, we are in the mountains/rural area. Our plan was to go walking, hang at the cabin, talk, catch up, etc. Maybe hit a brewery. She brought 5 pairs of shoes, 5 sweatshirts, 2 jackets, and bunch of clothes on hangers. Oy. I asked her long she was staying because I had to go back go work on Monday…

On the topic of spinner suitcases, something cute from FB. (The little sweatshirts are pulled over the handles.). Not sure that MY kids long ago, or any little ones, would be still enough for this to work. But still cute.

lol, we invited my bil and his new lady friend for a weekend trip to a cabin.

They came for 2 days. She brought 7! Pairs of shoes.

I brought 2. We did go out to dinner but 7?

Wow! I have PF-prone feet, and I usually bring no fewer than 4 pair (including what I wear). Maybe fewer for a cabin trip, especially if not going running. I have learned to just not fret over it. Based on my reading here, I recapture the space by having sparse makeup/beauty supplies.

7 pr of shoes for 2 days is an awful lot!

Spousal Unit tends to be an overpacker. I think it’s because he subscribes to the philosophy of “just in case.” Like “I better bring a blanket just in case I get cold.” Even though he’s bringing 2 sweatshirts…on a trip that involves airline travel.

This one epic time, we were on a family trip to WDW. He had convinced himself that he had to bring all of the following in a backpack into the Magic Kingdom:

  • work laptop
  • Headset with microphone
  • work iPad
  • wireless keyboard and mouse
  • all of his normal Disney park day stuff
  • Noise canceling headphones (large, they take up a lot of space!)
  • 4 battery bricks “just in case”

The security guard was hilarious going through his bag…asked Spousal Unit, “Are you planning on having any fun today?” Why bring all that? “In case there’s a work problem they need my help troubleshooting something.” Um…you told them you’re on vacation.:rofl:

The following day? He didn’t bring any of it with him.

So, if I am driving vs. flying, all bets are off on how many pairs of shoes I bring

It helps a lot with packing to know what the plans are. My college friends and I do a long weekend trip every year. On the years where a specific itinerary is circulated, I do a much more efficient job of packing. I am almost always flying in for the weekends unless it’s my year to plan. My travel partner on these weekend trips likes to exclusively do a carry on and as such, I am always asked if she can borrow my hair dryer and curling iron (I don’t mind - I just get a chuckle out of it since we always have to wait in baggage claim for my bag anyway).
