PSU? has anyone even mentioned it? PSU is my second favorite school, don’t diss…

I am only referring to US news. I just am not impressed with PSU and don’t think it deserves its ranking.

I didn’t evne know it was ranked on it lol, i thought you meant on this forum sorry

still college is part of the environment we mature in. a better college should have some sort of influence. i sure hope so, i dont feel at all like a “Princeton man” right now.

Overrated: You
Underrated: Me

thanks, but that post wasnt even entertaining.

All my comments on this thread will be focused on the UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS at these colleges and universities. That means NYU is not a top 10 or even 20 school because its undergraduate program is not nearly as strong as its graduate program… so please understand the comments i will be making. Again, this is my subjective opinion (which I have tried to make as informed as positive to correctly reflect reality) so dont get mad at some of the things I will post. One more thing is that some schools are particularly strong at one suit and I will mention the underrated program within their institution separately. Anyways here’s the list:

Overrated:
*NYU (of course! graduate school gives it a fabulous reputation and prestige it doesnt deserve.)
*Wash U. (What goes up fast, falls even faster… I have to be skeptical. Objectively, its a great school, but not Top 15 caliber)
*Emory (does not stand out in any particular area over similarly ranked institutions. I think they just wanted to include schools in the South)
*Vanderbilt and NotreDame (I guess its reputation forces Ranking systems to rank them higher than they deserve. Only slightly overrated.)
*LeHigh (for the same reason as NYU)
*Pepperdine

Underrated:
*Rice Univesity (Easily at Ivy-League level
*Dartmouth College (the less heralded of the ivies, offers best graduate experience)
*The College at Penn (While Wharton gets all the credit, Penn College is at the level of any in the top 10)
*Georgetown (I’ve heard conflicting opinions about the undegrad experience, but the faculty is amazing, in an awesome city and all students are happy. Great School IMO.)
*College of William and Mary (how can Vandy and Emory be considered better school for undergrads?)
*UNC-Chapel Hill (should be higher than Michigan-Ann Arbor IMO)
*Georgia Tech and Tulane

Underrated Programs:
Boston College programs in humanities/social sciences.
GWU’s Elliot School of Foreign Service (Top 5 in the country) also their Economics, Political Science and Pre-Law programs.
Carnegie Mellon, Harvey Mudd Engineering (Not as far from MIT, Caltech, Cornell engineering as people think)

*I dont know enough about the UC system undergraduate programs to make an informed opinion so I decided not to even mention it, but I think Berkeley and UCSD are underrated while UCLA is overrated.

Dear god here we go again…why dont people let these topics just die…

I second that. Oops, maybe bumping it up wasn’t the smartest move.

Shhhh. This is an amazing thread.

How about this…

Overrated: your school
Underrated: my school

WUSTL is overated i’m exhilerated ppl understand that.
i’ve heard so much washu is my dream school…it sucks…the proffesors even suck. research there sucked

Why do people think Wash U is either underrated or overrated? I am from California, and it’s relatively unrecognized here. Perhaps this is justified or unjustified (Northwestern is unrecognized, generally, and who has heard of Johns Hopkins? Very few that i know about).

wat’s even worse about WUSTL, grad placement sucks SH$T. Only 2 in harvard law, i mean, come on that’s horrible. Check out Chicago and Northwestern Law, WUSTL does not have more than 3 in those schools.

We’ll see how WUStL fares in the 2006 rankings, once the honeymoon is over.

Rice, is about half the size of WUSTL, but sends more than 10 times the number of kids to Harvard Law. That is pretty sad.

For the most part, I agree with jdelavalle:

Overrated:
Wash U.
Emory
NYU
Tufts
University of Michigan (the maize and blue Satan… Go Bucks!!)

Underrated:
Rice
U Chicago
Georgetown
UNC-CH
Claremont McKenna
Case Western Reserve

To get into Harvard law is the ultimativ ranking -.-

grow up

it can show how a school is geranlly perceived by its peer. Buddy, go look at the profiles for Chicago, Northwestern, UVA, Duke, Georgetown, Yale, or Harvard, and Wash U does not have more than 3 kids in each of these places. Similar schools like Northwestern just do a whole lot better.

Overrated: Duke
Underrated: Cornell, UCSC
