Have a good trip goaliedad! After reading this thread, I feel lucky that Blair allowed us to store many things in a dorm basement. We left all the large items like the bookcase, lamp, mirror & refrigerator. There won’t be as much this move. I will do the food shopping out there. Last year, I also brought all kinds of things from Costco. We borrowed an SUV and it all barely fit.

My god, this is a brilliant thread. I can’t believe I missed it while it was more active. I’m trying to bring as little possible, though my parents and grandparents are insisting that I’m not bringing enough. They might be right–including sports equipment, I could fit all of my stuff in the trunk of our car, and will.
This is kind of akin to that I’m constantly being told to buy new clothes. I am a child who has to be convinced (er, well, begged) to buy a new sweater. My mum told me explicitly that I HAD to have a new pair of pants. “No, I really don’t need that.” “prettyckitty, you need a pair of pants. You don’t have any others!” “No, really, I’ll be fine! I’ll buy them later, I promise!” “No.” “But I’ve got my English uniform shorts! Those are fine until winter!” “No.” Er, well, yeah. Yes, I am very weird.

Thanks, Burb Parent. I’m back home now and rested (I just woke up). Left Goaliegirl’s campus at 5:15 PM and drove through the night. Caught 2 hours of sleep in a rest area.

Getting back on topic, we had to do some goalie shopping on the way up (no pro shops down here with her equipment), so we added a few sticks and a new pair of hockey pants (the padded shorts you see them wear). Add a trip to Walmart to get the basics (bottled water, snacks, toiletries, etc.) and we looked like the Clampetts rolling into campus. LOL.

Prettyckitty, keeping it simple isn’t a bad thing, but if I can lend some advice, when trying to decline a favor, put a future date on it - say “Tell you what mum, can you send up those new pants around November 1 instead, when it starts getting cold?” A favor delayed isn’t such a bad thing to have.

Thanks, goaliedad. Don’t take it as an insult, because it isn’t one, but you sound kind of like my mum. :)

Hey just bumping this 'cause it might be useful for some people

Peace.

Barely more than a month to drop off for us…we better think about packing. Fortunately, we are one of the lucky ones that only live a few hours away, so we will be bringing things like winter clothes later in the year.
