According to a quick google search, ~28% of married couples went to the same college and 15% went to the same high school.
Is this true of you? Feel free to share how/where/when it happened!
I love hearing about how people meet their S.O. I think it’s the cutest thing ever.
Met and were friends in high school. Went to college about an hour apart, stayed in touch, and started seeing each other spring break of freshman year.
DS1 and his girlfriend met at a summer program between their junior and senior year of college. DS2 and DIL met their freshman year of college.
Yep. Met H in college. Same dorm. He asked me out to a dance. I thought he was the most stuck up jerk ever.
That was 31 years ago now. Still glad I married him, though he has gone from being voted, “Most Likely to Get Shot By Your Own Troops” (true senior award) to being loved by everyone he meets, so I can say he’s changed a tad from that first date. ?
Not college, but I met my husband in grad school 35 years ago–we were both awkward, introverted science nerds in the same department. We’ll celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary later this year.
DS met his current girlfriend in his freshman year of college (they lived in the same dorm), and they’re still together six years later. Time will tell if they’ll end up married.
Yes. He was a transfer student. Interesting he was 7 years older, but we graduated the same day. My three closest friends/roommates also married classmates (2 from our year, one from the prior year). All 4 couples are happily married 35 years later
I have a much less cute one to ruin the mood a bit
Knew a guy who was dating a gal for a good year at least, he was very much in love with her. She broke up with him, giving him very vague reasons. She’s now happily married and has children… with his roommate. All’s fair in love and war I guess?
But please, continue your “How I Met” stories, I love to hear them!
I met H playing volleyball for the Jaycees. We were on the same team and he was the only single guy on our team. It was a while after I had begun my career.
Grad school, same dorm (there was only one.) This was across the country from where we’d each grown up. But we learned our childhoods overlapped. Same Chinese restaurant, as kids, eg.
I met my spouse on the street in my neighborhood in seventh grade- we had just moved in and I was riding my bike around. He was my first boyfriend and my last- but there were some in the middle! Ha!
Sure did. We were both freshmen and taking self-paced chemistry and were in the same lab. He had noticed me in lab but I hadn’t noticed him. The end of October we were in the basement of the science building signing up to take a test. He introduced himself ad walked me back to the dorm. I went upstairs and told my roommate I met the guy I was going to marry.
Later that night we met in the quad. I saw him go out with friends and decided to go study by the fountain. When he came back he saw me and came to talk. We talked for hours. We dated ever since and were promised in the spring. We married on the SMU campus the day before graduation 38 year ago. It was funny that we went but his family was too tired to go to the ceremony!
So when our son started dating 2 weeks into his freshman year we had to laugh. They have been together 2 school years now so we will see.
