ah right!
Sorry, I miscounted!

SDMomof3: I would wait until your child has at least made it to the semi-finalist stage for Nat’l Merit. I am not sure I see the value otherwise as those “semi” and “finalist” benchmarks are what are really significant.
Good luck to us all for tomorrow morning’s SAT score reports!! I can’t believe Junior year is almost over…surreal!

SDMomof3, it seems that the end benefit of sending those two letters is to get on the school’s mailing list.
That said, there may be some slight benefit to sending them to schools that consider demonstrated interest and/or offer NM money. Have you looked at Keilexandra’s list on the NM subforum of the FA forum?

Cannot get over how “tired” my student–
yes there is sports going on–but this seems to be just exhaustion from a heavypace of the last 6 weeks…

I think some of this is the “let- down”…meaning less pressure of the last few days after a heavy April including ACT, heavy May with SAT and APs on top of school, sports etc…

Our student overslept this am–was SOUND ASLEEP when I went in …
and just went to be at 8:45pm…

All of that adrenaline and pushing has come to a halt…I think that lots of nutrition, H2O and rest is in order…

Finals come in short order and then summer plans…

SDmom - the letter we got says you only have until 5/25 to send the PSAT scores to two colleges.

I’m so sick. I am always freezing, despite being wrapped in a blanket. My head hurts, my throat hurts and I have a nasty cough that causes my chest to feel like it’s on fire. Whenever, I stand, I feel dizzy.

I didn’t go to school today and tomorrow isn’t looking to promising either. Great way to get behind on my end-of-year projects.

CIA, make sure that’s not walking pneumonia!

Thanks to all who gave advice. I kind of thought there was not much benefit to notifying schools at this stage in the game, except for those schools that might care about demonstrated interest.

CIA-hope you feel better soon.

SAT scores are up. S did great, really great.

One quick brag about his reading score…he got a 790. yippee, yahoo. Of course his SAT scores are now even more out of whack with his GPA but I will take what I can get.

mamom - Congrats to your son! Is he done with the testing? If so, even more reasons to celebrate.

I checked my S’s SATII scores this morning and he got what he was hopping for, so he is done too. I used the free score report from the collegeboard to send his scores to 4 colleges that he would most likely apply to.

He is a lot more relaxed during the day after the AP tests, but has troubles getting up in the morning. He is leaving for 10 days tomorrow and will be back just in time for the finals. However, I think he is exempt from most of them. In any case, he is not stressing about it.

Our students SAT2s scores are in Math 2, Physics and Chem…
they are not bad–and still our student is disappointed…they are high–just not uber high…anywhwere from 10-40 pts below the “goals”
and there are some very reachy schools on “the list”…so I think our stunde is worried about that…

Is it worth re-taking an SAT2??? Our student asked if we should change the SAT in June to retake the SAT2s…

I am thinking better time to prep for the SAT than retake the subject tests.

What do ya think?

Congrats to mamom and keylimpie and sons!

fogfog, I think you are right in having son just re-take the SAT and write off the subject tests. It could be just me, but I haven’t heard of anyone retaking the subject tests. It might be better to re-adjust the school choices.

fogfog - Are your student’s top 2 scores good enough? Georgetown U is the only college that still requires 3 SAT IIs. The other “reachy” schools will look at the 2 highest scores (or so they say). I personally would not insist that my kid re-takes SATIIs if they are 10-40 points off. The difference maybe 1-2 questions and is not worth the extra effort. But I would not fight my kid either if he/she wants to re-take it. In this case, it makes sense to re-take SATIIs in June and take SATI next fall.

We can’t view the score from CB website, there is no score for May 1st test (Status: complete).

What does this mean?

flyinglandbird, after you log into the collegeboard site, there is a news section in the that says May scores are online. Click on that link and it will bring you to the scores.

flyinglandbird, or if you enter the other way, scroll down and you may see the reports further down the page.

^^ FWIW
If you enter in through student id, then click on the red megaphone at the top of the page
It asks for the password and then pops up the scores (not full report) but the #s are there.

Hope that helps

As for the tests,
She is thinking she can bring those scores up a bit and put them solidly where they belong—I just don’t know…several of her schools are reach schools (for anyone) and require SAT2s in 2 sujects, Math2 being one of them…

fogfog, not sure what to tell you. S took Chem and USH last year. Did not do as well as he hoped in either, but did OK. So he is going to try again this year. Definitely won’t take chem test again, but may take USH. Other possible subjects are Lit (a definite), math 2 (very likely), and world history. I want to look at the curves for the tests and see which ones will be better for S.

I guess I would work on getting the SAT score up first then go back and redo the SAT 2’s in the fall, using the summer to review.
