Parents of the HS Class of 2011 - Original

so yeah, I guess tomorrow night. Where does it say that on your web browser?

I’m way too excited. Do all the supplements come out tomorrow night, too?

Nah. Some might, but I think colleges release them gradually over the next few weeks.

Ugh. By the way – am I just being really slow, or is it not possible to register on the common app website yet?

CIA: I downloaded a countdown app for my Firefox browser so I can program in a deadline and watch the timer tick down when I log in. Should be fun when I program in the application deadlines in.

Driftwood: We wont be able to access anything on the website until Sunday, and I imagine it will be very busy.

So I am feeling dense, but what is the big deal about the Common App coming up? We have had access to the preview version for some weeks, so there is no big unveiling. Is it just a symbolic beginning to the application season?

Now the college specific applications are another matter–I am definitely looking forward to those.

We can begin actually filling it out tonight, online. Also, many (though not all and I’m not sure if it’s most) colleges release their college specific supplement as well.

I must be the odd person out. I’ve been through the nagging-for-app’s cycle twice and have not been looking forward to the start of application season at all. I’d just as soon keep visiting and thinking…

My D is so excited for the common app. Does it open at midnight eastern time? If so, that’s 9 p.m. here and you can bet she’ll be filling it out as soon as it’s open.

I’ve been assuming it will open at midnight eastern, but who knows. It might open at 5 p.m. tomorrow for all we know.

If it doesn’t open until the wee hours, I can envision a very tired teenager tomorrow, from staying up all night hitting the refresh button.

I haven’t been going to bed until 4-5 a.m. anyway so we’ll see…

The Common App is open now.

Thanks-Gentlepeople, start your engines!

Wow, everyone must be working on their apps!

Or sleeping - you posted at 2:12 am my time kumitedad! :)

Are there really kids out there that LIKE doing the college applications? My son has 1/2 of Pitt’s down, but that’s only because they offered a free application if it was done by the day of the visit.

S is working on his essay and will have completed everything on the common app (except essays, I expect they will still be in draft form) by the time school starts Sep 10th. He is not willingly working on anything though. H & I have decided that with his very busy fall schedule, it is everyone’s best interest to make sure That is unfortunately his normal mode of operation, wait til the last minute. None of his friends are working on anything either which doesn’t help motivate S. He has 3 weeks til football starts up, it won’t kill him to use a little of that time to get this stuff done.

D is working on her common app essay. Hopefully she will have it done by the end of the month. The rest of the common app essay is really quite easy to complete. Once school starts she will ask her teachers for recommendations and then hopefully she can get her common apps out by the end of September, beginning of October! I think all the schools she is applying to take the common app…so after that it will be the waiting game!

I am trying to get my son to make progress at least on the common app essay. But it is like pulling teeth… If he get that done before school starts I will think we are in good shape.

Wow - I am really impressed with kids moving forward on the Common App. D is still at the review and prepare for visit stage. We leave Wednesday afternoon for our Ohio Six (or in our case, Ohio three) tour and this will be our first college visit and D’s first college interview. Maybe this will get her psyched to start working on apps when we return!
