I’m a long-time lurker on this thread, but felt I had to answer your question. You’d better check the EA school’s financial aid page regarding the Profile. My son applied to an EA school (not ED), and he has to have the Profile filed by 11/15. A real bummer, because none of his other schools require it until February.

Guess I should come out of lurkdom and say hi. I’ve been on CC three years now. DD is now a sophomore in college, DS is a HS senior in the process of applying (8 apps down, 6 to go,+scholarship apps). Congrats to all of you who have acceptances already! We should hear the 3 EA decisions in December.

^^^That may vary with school as well. One EA school I’m familiar with does not require the Profile in Nov. UNLESS you want a provisional FA package if you are accepted in Dec. If you’re OK with waiting until spring for a FA package even though you were admitted EA, then you don’t have to turn in the Profile until the RD deadline.

Football playoffs tonight. Could be a last field performance for D in the drill team (as well as marching band, football players, etc.)…or not. We’re very evenly matched with the other team, only we pass and they run…it will probably rain tonight, which means we’re hosed. Everyone would like to win one more game, so they can play (next round) in Cowboys Stadium. It would be such symmetry, because D’s first game on drill team was at the old Texas Stadium. Alas, it may not happen. Wish us luck!!!

Good luck Missypie! We are in the playoffs tonight too, could be uniform turn-in if it doesn’t go our way, which would mean never seeing my boy in his head drum major uniform again but I’m not thinking tonight will be it. We are #2 seed going up against #7. Our band directors have a problem with the opposition’s band directors, something about how their drum line peed on our band truck last yr? Anyway, will be interesting. Not raining here but it sure is getting chilly.

Blue, thanks for asking about my mom. I was about to post a good report earlier this afternoon (surgery went well, she went home from hospital Wed) when I got a panicky call from my dad. She’s developed a post surgical complication and we’re back in the Emergency Room. I don’t know how serious it is, but I expect we’ll be here for awhile and she may be readmitted.

Heck of a Friday night! I made up a big batch of the raspberry martinis and baked off many trays of the stuffed mushrooms, and I’m sending them out to all of you with good wishes for a wonderful, restful weekend!

I finally can report that DS received his first acceptance today! He was accepted at Lebanon Valley College. I know it isn’t as prestigeous as most of the colleges your kids are applying to but it is a good fit for him if he decides actuary science is the way he wants to go.

Regardless, it is always nice to have the first be an acceptance to bolster confidence.

Lebanon Valley is a great college! One of my friends has a freshman there and he’s enjoying it very much! It was on my son’s long list until he narrowed down his major. Congratulations!!!

Son got a “we want to give you peace of mind” letter from Purdue today. In summary, it said, “we aren’t releasing decisions until Dec. 10, but there is no reason to delay letting you know that we have a spot for you.” Sort of an unofficial official “yes.” He loved the first-year engineering program there and the engineeringi facilities. Not so crazy about the dorms or the town. But willing to listen if the money is good. (He should qualify for in-state tuition even though we wer OOS.)

Tonight one of our “surrogate” kids directs the fall play and the other is his stage manager, so that’s where we are headed. Then to state flagship in the morning for last home football game.

Good luck to those teams still playing football. We haven’t made the playoffs in 15 years so we have no clue what that would feel like!

Hi all - D got her first acceptance to state flagship (rolling). Very nice to know now there is one school that wants her. April is a long way off.

Hopefully, D will be finishing off two supplements and putting some scholarship stuff together in next two days. Won’t it be nice to be DONE?

H and I debate about how much to do for D in this process. I do the weekly check in to make sure D is on schedule. I think doing some admin stuff is helpful and, quite frankly, I like having a little information/control in the process. Each situation is different. I love this thread because it is supportive, informative, and collegial (haha). We all love our kids and they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Just booked a cruise for the “senior trip.” So excited; it’s mostly families from D’s team and we love the girls and parents (for the most part ). There are even some younger siblings for DS (HS class of 2015) to enjoy. So, I am in on the “let’s get healthy by senior spring” plan. No martinis for me!

missypie - What an emotional night for your D and you. Not knowing if it will be a ‘last’ it will feel like one regardless. Crossing my fingers that you don’t have rain in TX.

MOSB - Sorry to hear about the setback for your mom, and your Dad’s very anxious response. How hard for him as well. Hopefully they will be able to treat here, make her comfortable, have the wisdom to keep her for observation if necessary, and you’ll find a quiet comfortable place to wait… okay, I can hope. ((((((hugs))))))

Sooo excited for your son OWM!! What a great surprise to get an unexpected early, early answer! Hope it’s the first of many. I’m wondering if this may be the tide turning with universities trying to grab your hearts and minds early on…before you can get responses from other schools? I know our big e’school sent out RD responses in waves starting the end of February last year.

Good luck to your ‘surrogate’ kid and his new experience of play direction.

Congratulations to momofzach (to zach?) on the exciting news! It feels sooo good to get that first ‘YES’, regardless of where it falls on your list.

Bluejr. is spending tomorrow at a regional competition with the elementary kids that he mentors. Such an exciting day. The kids still have the true love for what they’re doing, the parents are so appreciative for his help, and as a mentor not participant it’s a much different feeling for him. It’s a wonderful validating experience. His hs is hosting the competition so it’s a ‘family’ event for us (read everyone volunteers). I actually look forward to the events with the younger kids. They really are the ‘face of the future’ and so much fun! :)

S2 got his acceptance from our state flagship today. There was no guessing about the contents since the darn envelope had CONGRATULATIONS written across the front. This is his backup school, but he would be very happy there and I would be thrilled to have him so close. (older brother is a college freshman and I still haven’t recovered from letting him go 6 hours away)

all of this great news. congrats to your kids (and you, of course). the first “yes” is such a relief. On the home front, I have been trying relentlessly to get S to do a few supplements so that he is prepared if reachy-reach ED school doesn’t go his way. He is just not budging though.

blueiquana and MOSB - I just realized that you two were some of the wonderful helpful posters this past summer that talked me down from the edge of panic and helped me get my ill son home from Africa for surgery - do you remember that story? Well - that’s the son in the “dinner with professor” story I recently posted. He is recovered from his surgery and even got to play his varsity sport again! Realizing you two were part of that again made me tearful with gratitude for all the helpful people here. So, thanks again!! --OK – off topic officially ended :)

My 2011 S has completed his 24 hours of no college talk and now has an EA app and a scholarship app due by Monday - Happy weekend!

Omg, Puma, is that you??? Although your username looked familiar, I couldn’t place “where” on cc I knew you from.

Of course I remember the thread about your son! And I’m so happy to hear that he’s recovered from his surgery and is doing so well!

Honestly, this just makes my day. That was a scary time and I felt honored to be part of a community of strangers all trying to help you and your son deal with a fairly desperate and frightening situation.

Glad you reminded me of the connection, and here’s your martini. Cheers!

BIG congrats to momofzach, OWM, mnmom,
kajon, and their respective offspring! With more acceptances rolling in every day, it’s so exciting to realize our kids are REALLY going to college!

Blue, thanks again for the empathy and encouraging words. They help so much!

Mom and Dad are home now, both exhausted. Apparently there’s a post-op infection, but she was well enough to be sent home (with tons of antibiotics). The wonderful news is, coincidentally, her pathology reports came out while we were in the ER and her doc stopped by to give her the news in person: everything benign!!! We are so happy and relieved! Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts. I continue to remember those of you with ill parents and chronic illnesses of your own in my prayers.

FlMathMom, please have another martini and a few more mushrooms…Sunday comes all too soon!

Oh momofsongbird, glad to hear your mom is better and benign is such a wonderful word to hear!
All of the others congrats on all of those 1st acceptances:) It feels good knowing that acceptances are rolling in. D got a call today for an interview for her EA school. She knows that the school is a reach but is super excited!! I am keeping my fingers crossed the interview goes well.
D1 is in the process of figuring out if she wants to study abroad next fall. It would be her junior year of college. She is thinking New Zealand. Has anyone here older kids study in New Zealand?
