I vote for pretending…
Congrats!

FLMathmom, Congrats to your son!!! My gf’s son is a Soph. at GT. Loves it.

I vote for pretending, too - though I imagine it will be very hard to hide your excitement. Good luck!

Congrats FLMathMom!! While I also vote for faking that you don’t know, good luck with having son look before 5 pm. My son does not normally look at his e-mail account that he created just for colleges unless I specifically ask him to do so. One of his last acceptances was announced that way and he didn’t look at that account for TWO days!

Maybe I’m neurotic, but I already sent scores, trancripts and LORS to schools that my daughter will only apply to if she doesn’t get accepted by her ED school. As Emmybet found out, some schools are sticklers about deadlines. I figured that is was safer in the big scheme of things to send everything out at once.

FlMathMom: I vote for pretending and acting surpised when he gives you the good news. Congratulations!

FlMathMom - Congratulations! I wouldn’t be able to pretend… But that’s just me.

collegeshopping - good point about FB. 5 other kids from my S’s HS applied EA to the same college. After checking on their decision on 12/15, I am sure they will check each other’s’ FB pages.

FlMathMom, CONGRATS! Wonderful news! My vote is fake it, but if he doesn’t check on his own, ask him to check because the suspense is killing you (which is sort of true…you’re in suspense to see his reaction, right???) :)

I agree, momjr, that better safe than sorry. Our school won’t send a thing until application is complete so she cannot just have the school send their stuff and wait to see what the news is 12/15 before sending the applications. D did send 7 apps and all ancillary stuff just in case EA is not a yes. However, the last two apps need a final proof and D just needed a break so they have sat for a couple of weeks. D has a 5 day weekend over Thanksgiving, so she can get finished then and run through any scholarship opportunities/deadlines as well. These low yield schools really make things interesting!

FlMathMom - I faked it earlier this week (she had said I could but I read it and resealed it)- she was so thrilled to tell me and said I’m glad you didn’t open it! I 'fessed up next morning.
Now I’d just like the other 3 to come…patience - not MY virtue!

Thanks for sharing in my excitement. My hubby just got home. I didn’t tell him. My son won’t be home til 8ish. He’s going to a Spanish restaurant with the Spanish Honor Society. He has no way to check before he gets home unless one of his friends has a phone with the Internet. I doubt he would ask to use it because he is a very private person and he would rather find out without an audience.

Yes, MOSB, I am looking forward to his reaction. He is not very outwardly emotional tho.

Kathiep - maybe our boys will end up at WPI together. I really love their program.

D2 also accepted at Georgia Tech! I teach at her high school, so we looked together at lunch. She was excited to have an out-of-state option. There is a letter to her from our Congressman that I really want to open but won’t. She’s waiting for a nomination to West Point, and I’m hoping that might contain good news. In reality, it’s probably just telling her they don’t have her SAT scores which she ordered October 25. Don’t even want to get started on that frustration.

Congratulations on the GATech admits!! Bluejr (and bluejr-jr?..S3
) really liked the campus when we visited. It is an amazing school!!
Way to go!!

btw, he looked at the USC stuff today, smiled and said ‘maybe for grad school’.

blueiguana–you do know that USC is a private school, right?

I remember seeing your name a lot but don’t remember the details of your situation. In case this applies: USC offers what I believe is a 1/2-tuition scholarship for NM finalists. I looked into it for my daughter, but didn’t think the location would be a good one for her.

Congrats to the GA Tech admits. I really wanted our son to look there. (It does qualify under the “nuclear research reactor” requirement.) But he did not want to go south. Tried to tell him Atlanta wouldn’t be like the stereotypical south, but I lost.

Great school!

Phbmom, congrats on the Georgia Tech news!

Why would USC be cheaper for instate residents? Surely the tuition is same for all? Our counselor encouraged my son to apply and said they had great merit aid. We decided against it due to location and that I don’t really think it would be worth being so far away for.

This is one case where I got it wrong…please accept my apologies.
Either way…too expensive.
Bluejr’s got a couple of awesome options so we’ll keep our fingers (and toes) crossed for a few more months!!

Looked at how the letter from our Congressman was addressed to D2 (really, I wasn’t holding it up to the light!) and had to chuckle. It’s addressed to “Mr.” XXXX XXXXXXX. D2 has a name that just can’t be mistaken for a boy’s! When I told D2 over the phone that I’d lost a little confidence in our Congressman (kidding!) because the letter is addressed to “Mr.”, she laughed longer and louder than I’ve heard her laugh in a long time. She’s on her way home, so we’ll know the contents soon enough.

Fl and Phb Moms - congrats to your kiddos!

Funny how a letter in the mail has us all trembling these days … I haven’t cared so much about mail for years!

D was sick today, managed to eke out one short supplemental essay though … Maybe being down will help her get a few more out? She’s usually flitting like a butterfly.

Congratulations for all successes! Hurray, Elevenses!
