FlMathmom-even with all this college mail, my d still does not get the mail unless I tell her to! Go figure! I should take a lesson from her and calm down!

One thing we do—
our “Kings/Wise Men” travel around the house for the season…
:D

Ok Pretzel goodies:

Synder’s of Hanovers “Snaps” (they carry these at Walmart but not our local grocery)
Bag of Hershey Kisses
Bag of Hefshey Hugs
Bag of Holiday M & M’s plain

Cover a cookie sheet with foil. Lay preztels out (I do 36 at a time) place one type of kiss on pretzels. (hugs and kisses melt at different rates). Put in oven @ 200 for 4-6 minutes. They start to sweat a bit, take them out at take an m & m place on point of kiss/hug and press down. It will look like a button. Now, if they aren’t soft enough, eat the reject and put back in oven for 2 more minutes. When finished, put cookie sheet in frig for 10 minutes.

I am going to try the rolo/pecan combo. Sounds delish!

I’m late w/ dinner b/c i was over at the Yale thread, so this is just a quick post. another big blood bath. kids w/ perfect 2400s deferred, including the amazing silverturtle. i just don’t get that one at all. not that yale knows this but how many kids on this site will benefit for years to come from his SAT manuel? he’s not only brilliant but so generous. remember julia robert’s line in pretty woman when she confronts the clerk who refused to originally help her at the clothing store, and the way she delivered it: BIG, big mistake. well that’s the first image that came to mind when i read silver’s post.

Interesting talk about a group get a way. Two days ago I met in real life a Mom from HI (I live in MA) I know from an online Mothers group I joined when I had 10yo DD. The original group is still going, with new Mom’s joining all the time, but a small group of us splintered off and have been together for 4 years now. I have a package of holiday stuff to send off to one of the other Mothers in my group who lives in WA.

fwiw

Over 5k apps for SCEA.
Around 10% of the apps were accepted
…which is higher than last years Overall acceptance rate of around 7%.
Just over half of the SCEA apps were deferred.

My pretzel turtles:

One small pretzel, one Rolo, one pecan half.

Place the pretzel on a parchment or foil-lined baking sheet. Place Rolo on top of pretzel. Bake at 250 for 4 minutes. Remove from oven, and press pecan half on top of Rolo, so that the chocolate spreads out over the pretzel. Chill in the refrigerator to set.

WARNING: They are highly addictive.

We have good news here- Son got accepted EA to Yale. But I have mixed feelings here. I am happy for him, especially because it’s his first acceptance. But I was lurking on the Yale threads and I think this year it was the most amazing group of kids. My heart aches to see so many deferrals and rejections. At our school six kids have applied early to Yale – 2 got accepted. I never thought that all 6 would have good news today, but I can’t help feeling sad for them. All are wonderful students.

Hugs X millions to all that did not have good news today. Early round magnifies the gloom of the rejection, but just keep the big picture in mind - 7 months from now all your kids will be where they always ( or so it will feel at the time) wanted to be – happy, content and positive about their future. Hang on there.

(Passes Pinot Noir to everybody)

Congratulations keylimepie and S. Well done!! What a lovely blanket of security to have this EA in the bag which means you can calmly and happily await RDs. No sweat!

As I may have mentioned, S1 did not do any EAs or ED. His major was very specific (not many schools had it) and his grades were very good–but actually improving so the thought was, why not wait until RD for all of his reachiest schools. He had excellent results, very happy to get into his first choice with full merit scholarship–just a great outcome for a very hardworking and cool guy. But my point is–it was much calmer around our house without any EA/ED deferrals or rejections to handle. Later, in RD, when he did get his share of rejections, they were mixed in the flurry of acceptances and that was kinda nice.

I have not been reading the Yale forum at all–so I’m out of the loop on that soap, but I do always feel so badly for the kids who don’t get the news they are dreaming of. The majority of these kids are equal to those admitted on many levels, and so many more are deserving of a spot than there are actually available spots. Who knows why one applicant sparkles a certain sparkle on a given day? Just happy when our kid is the sparkly one, right?

Lastly, I have good news to announce. S2 heard from his second EA school–Case Western Reserve University. He’s IN! We’re quite excited as this makes a very cool 2 for 2. I have never visited that campus, don’t know much about the school, and yet any school who loves my boy is a winner with me. S2 visited the campus last spring on a college tour and really liked it–so that’s how it ended up on the list. Between the warmth of Tulane and the chilly midwest Ohio… I’m kinda wondering how may turn out.

So we’re celebrating very lucky EA news–with two excellent U’s. Oh, and he’s up for a theatre scholarship, too. So we’re keeping fingers crossed on that.

Big congrats to keylimepie’s son! I’ll have some wine, thanks much!

Many congratulations to keylimeson and madbeanson. Great news.

My S has 6 supplements to complete in the next 9 days. Wishing they were done…

Congrats to Keylime and Madbean!!!

Congrats to Keylimepie and madbeans sons! Nice!

Wait to go Keylimepie and madbean kids! I’m so pysched for both of you. I love hearing good news - I’m smiling ear to ear!

Our household is working through a Yale deferral; this too shall pass.

But I think fogfog’s household got a Yale acceptance that has not yet been acknowledged. Congratulations.

^yikes. i hate typos! obviously meant to write “Way to go.” and fog, that’s terrific. I didn’t see your post re: yale. sorry i missed it.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

UT, sorry to hear your news but if it’s any consolation, we too worked through a reach-for-anybody school deferral this week. the sting subsides fairly quickly, although my S would love to hear good news in the spring.

Congrats madbean, fogfog, Keylime! You’re so lucky to have this behind you. It was interesting to read the discussion about Yale’s seemingly high deferral rate. Some of the kids wrote that it was unfair to defer so many – to keep so many hanging by a thread. Even though I am hoping for anything but a rejection for my D, I have to admit I think that argument has some merit. Is the high deferral rate because Yale didn’t have time to thoroughly review the applications, or does Yale really believe that the deferred applicants have a good shot of getting in come April?

Congratulations on the acceptances today!!

congrats to keylime and fogfog
working through deferral her too
heartbroken, but will survive
bloodbath is right!

Thee amount of bourbon we are drinking scheems to be helping.
