Parents of the HS Class of 2011 - Original

Another scholarship for seniors. It is due Wednesday [Media Center - Florida Realtors®](http://media.living.net/scholarshipinfo.htm) Parents cannot be realtors so may not have many applicants. Good $$$

amanda: thinking of you; very happy the sun came out today; isn’t it difficult when you are the one grieving yet everyone congregates at your house?..I feel your pain; just went through it here recently…

ldinct: my daughter said the same thing to me this week: “I thought you’d be done with CC when I was done with getting in?” my response: CC is my FB…get over it…

emmybet: never doubted the URI acceptance; fingers crossed for $$…congrats!!!

I will join the club of those of us with kids who can’t understand our CC addiction. My d has also been inquiring as to why I continue to be on CC now that she is accepted at schools. She doesn’t seem to understand that I really like hearing about what is going on with all of you and sharing my joy/angst/whatever! She laughs at me when I refer to you as my “friends”!!

Another scholarship for seniors … or “seniors”…?

ha, just got an email from one of S’s RD schools we sent profile to in Oct. Now they want copies of our 2009 taxes and W2’s, by the 15th. Unfortunately, when I went to fill out FAFSA a couple of weeks ago I couldn’t find the forms. H must have put them in a “safe” place when he filled out the profile. We won’t even get FA, I just want to leave the door open for a loan if we choose to go that route.

We used the heated coils/wire thingies on our old house. They worked great.

Emmy - congrats to your D on URI!!

Thank you! She finally knows, because she saw the e-mail. Wheeeewwwww. No idea what the scholarship is; they have some standard ones, so we know how her stats fit in, but we won’t assume anything.

She hasn’t visited, and her gut feeling is very important, so she’s holding back on her feelings on this until she gets through her auditions and we can visit during spring break.

Yes, the comedic roles are the best, and my D gets them. She was great in a very funny role in Willy Wonka last year.

Emmy, that is a kick that she’s getting so much love from a deferral school. It must be generic. So far my D doesn’t seem to be getting heavy wooing from her schools, although if I get one more email about financial aid workshops at American University I’m going to scream. I don’t even know how they got my email address-- she must have put it on the Common App. I’m not on any college lists and let her deal with college communications, since it’s her process.

I haven’t been on CC for a while, I felt like it was getting to be an obsession! I had to just step back and relax, we had weeks to go before my D heard from any more schools, and I stopped running outside when I saw the mail truck and checking to see if anybody else had received an acceptance, it all felt more normal! Then the last acceptance showed up before we expected it, a large envelope from her favorite school! She was happy enough with her other acceptances, but her reaction to SUNY ESF was more like love. She felt right at home there, and cannot wait to go to college. We’ve scheduled a trip over her Feb. school break for the Accepted Student day, and have also scheduled a tour of Syracuse University, whose campus they are attached to. She has friends who attend SU, and we’ll meet up with them while we’re there. It will be nice to have a chance to have a relaxed visit this time. And visiting in the winter will just be realistic!

I’m glad I hadn’t jinxed her by already making reservations for drop off day in August!

Bella: Congratulations on your daughter’s acceptance to her favorite school.

Emmybet: I’m glad that the URI acceptance is now official. I hope you get good news on the scholarship.

My family teases me about my obsession with CC also. Now that my daughter’s plans are set, I’m still really enjoying sharing the experience with the rest of you.

On the Profile, we only had one school listed so I guess that is why I didn’t get the car question. It must be a shorter form as well as I didn’t think it was too bad. They want our 2010 taxes, w-2’s and S’s by Feb 15 though. Not sure how that is going to happen. I thought there was some issue with certain regulations not even being finalized yet for 2010.
I didn’t even think S had to file, but I guess the cut off is $900? he had to file last year as he earned more than $400 in self-employment as a referee, and $400 is the cut off for self-employment filing. He was a busboy last summer, it seems like the cutoff is really low.

I got the last piece of paper in the mail on Jan. 31st and spent the evening doing our taxes, finalizing the FAFSA (that website held me up for hours!) left for a basketball game, and then finished the FAFSA and went on to the TAP application. Not as instrusive as the CSS Profile, but I got it all done and that felt good. Since then I’ve had 4 of my D’s friends come over to have me do their taxes! It was nice to feel appreciated by my D!

ETA - I was able to file my federal but they said they would not process til the 15th of Feb. so it was doable.

so kiddo’s school had told me to send taxes etc to them - yet college board system emailed me about the IDOC system.

thoughts?

bella-congrats!!!

Yay, congrats!

It’s fun hearing others’ news while we have lulls in our own. And I, too, care about all of these kids! It’s a graduating “class” … except of course that the kids haven’t ever seen each other.

fogfog - You’re a few days ahead of us. As soon as I catch up, I’ll try to remember to answer.

Just read an interesting thread on next year’s taxes for those who will be getting scholarships. Check it out if you want to torture yourself early http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/1078889-received-form-1098-today-we-taxed-scholarships-3.html</a></p>

fogfog - I just an email from College Board about IDOC but have not yet logged in (taxes are not even to the CPA yet). My guess is to log in and to see if it gives you school by school instructions. I’m a newbie at this but I think when I completed the profile it showed a chart with the schools we submitted the info to and it indicated whether or not they used IDOC. Log in and see if it tells you. Let us know!

Well, we finally have an acceptance to contribute - my son was admitted to McGill. It was a safety and not very high on his list, but still exciting, and at least I know he will actually be going to college, somewhere!

McGill is a very, very fine school-- congratulations!

McGill is a great school. Congrats Angier!

Congrats Aniger! The first acceptance is always very special.
