Parents of the HS Class of 2011 - We're awesome!

It might be easiest to wear his suit on the plane. I can’t say for sure about garment bags at carry-ons, I think they may still be allowed if they fit the dimensions, but space is often an issue and I have had carry-ons taken from me and checked as luggage due to not enough space on the plane, then my carry-on did not make the connecting flight.

I travel lots and if I need a suit for only one day, I tend to wear the jacket over jeans and put the pants on a folder thing inside my rolling carryon. I usually am flying business or first and can ask the FA to hang my jacket and/or very light garment sleeve. They will often do it for me if I am flying coach but no guarantees

Thanks! mamabear and shawbridge.

That was exactly what I had in mind and told my S that. He did not seem to be comfortable with it. I guess he is not yet used to travel for business purpose.

This maybe a question for the parent cafe.

D1 has just received her own credit card ( as opposed to being a cardholder on our account ). She is trying to build some credit history in prep for moving to NY in July.

Should she pay off the balance monthly? Or carry a small balance to build history? She would rather pay it off but that may defeat her goal.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I would pay it off each month to avoid interest charges. The credit bureau looks at the payment record and the percent of the credit line in use as a couple of their factors in developing a credit score.

*Happy Thanksgiving! *

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We met my parents and aunt at a restaurant about halfway between our homes. We had a nice visit. My siblings all spend Thanksgiving with their in-laws and H’s sisters live 6 hours away and we both had to work today, so that was too far to fit in around work.

D did write an email from Cuba. I guess she got tired of me sending her pictures of snow and jack knifed snow plows as she sent me a picture of her in her bikini on a Cuban beach. :)

So good to hear about “our” kids getting job offers! I’m joining that bandwagon. My son has one firm offer and another on the way, like vtmathmom, my son’s firm offer is across the country. His is in Seattle, Washington. He’s never visited Seattle but after looking at youtube videos and talking to everyone, he’s feeling a little more confident about going. No one has anything bad to say about Seattle, except for the weather. It was helpful knowing that it gets less rain than Dublin, Ireland which he loved and didn’t mind that rain.

@walkinghome, it’s not the rain but the days without sunshine. If you have questions about Seattle feel free to pm me.

Seattle-mom, Mostly, I want a crystal ball to tell me this is the best decision for him and that he’ll be happy, but if I think of anything more specific, I’ll PM.

Hey, for anyone else that has a senior relocating to a new area, and you think they’re the kind that like deals, The Entertainment books are on sale today for $19 and if you go through ebates, there’s a cashback bonus. Free shipping. They have mobile discounts too. I’m planning to get son a few Seattle based things for Christmas, and he’s all about deals so thought that might be fun. <a href=“Up to 20% Off Entertainment.com Coupons, Promo Codes + 10.0% Cash Back”>Up to 20% Off Entertainment.com Coupons, Promo Codes + 10.0% Cash Back;

D landed in Tampa from Havana, Cuba about 2 hours ago. She landed about 4 hours earlier than expected, they were on a charter flight so I guess they left when the pilot decided to leave. She was able to change her connecting flights to Chicago for no extra charge, so she will be with her aunts at a decent hour tonight.

I won’t see her for another week, though for now it is enough to know that she is back in the US and to hear a happy, healthy voice.

bajamm, great that she is back.

It’s official. ShawD took her last exam in her undergraduate career although she won’t technically graduate until January 2015 and won’t have a ceremony until May. Yesterday, there was a pinning ceremony to symbolize the completion of nursing training. Families and friends filled the gym where they had the ceremony. She was chosen to speak and was funny and touching – a bunch or people told her that she made them laugh and then cry. The program listed the various honors that people had gotten and she was the only one who had gotten all – and she also learned that she will graduate summa cum laude. She starts her Nurse Practitioner training in a month (for another 18 months). I’m really thrilled that she has a) come into her own (it was tough following her brother); and b) found an area that really works with her interests, passions and skills.

Congrats shawbridge! Your daughter sounds like she’ll make a wonderful nurse. I’ve had my share of illness…been diagnosed with two unrelated cancers, the last this year. I can’t begin to explain the difference an excellent nurse can make in someone’s recovery. I wish her many years of fulfilling work.

@bajamm‌ Yay for being safely back on US soil! I am sure she has lots of stories/ memories to share.

@shawbridge‌ Congrats to your d. It has been fun to share her journey. I wish her continued success and I have no doubt she will be an amazing nurse practitioner.

D is home Tues night ( i think) My goal for her is that she packs away the middle school/ high school stuff that still adorns her room. It s going to be a busy time after she graduates packing up her college apartment and moving her to NY. I fear if she doesn’t do it in the next few weeks, she will be 25 and I will be still looking at her hs memorabilia.

@RenaissanceMom, I hope things are looking up for you.

@RenaissanceMom, are you still in treatment or have you completed it? All ok? We have seen the same and I think ShawD will become very good as a nurse (she will be working 4 or 5 shifts a month as a nurse while she is in school) and even better as an NP.

@RenaissanceMom‌ - hope you are feeling better now.

@Sally22‌ - D’s room is frozen in time :slight_smile: I’ve asked her multiple times, but there never seems to be a good time for her to clean up/reorganize her room. She has a couple of different job offers she’s considering for next year, and it is pretty clear she’s not going to come back home, except for a couple of weeks. I am considering offering to sit with her and go through stuff in her room - that might be the only way we get anything done!

She’s headed for another interview this week, before she comes home. She will need to make a decision by the end of the month - so it should be an interesting holiday break!

@shawbridge‌ - congratulations to your D!

@bajamm - glad to hear your D is back in the good old USA

@shawbridge - congrats on your D’s graduation and pinning as a nurse.

@arisamp My daughter has the same issue with her room…never enough time to clean. So I have put her on notice that she doesn’t get her January allowance until it is clean (and she will have the winter break to do it)

S will be home for 5 nights for Christmas (he finished his classes early and is now working in Manhattan, will graduate in May once he has fulfilled his co-op requirements at his current job). He got an end of the year raise and bonus (yay!) but I have not told him we turned his room into a guest room with a queen sized bed and he will be sleeping elsewhere when he is home. I may wait until he arrives.

I still have a few things from my 24 year old D around that I can’t get her to take away.
