Parents of the HS Class of 2012 - New beginnings

Oh, no! Every traveler’s nightmare… Crossing my fingers that she makes the flight or gets a later one with no problem.

She made it, with about a minute to spare. Phew. Now I want to wring her neck!

2016BarnardMom- So relieved for you all! I had my fingers crossed for you! It is so stressful when they travel.

Glad to hear she made the flight. I totally understand the “wring her neck” feeling.

D arrived safely last night. So nice to have her home for several days. She’s likely to sleep most (all) of the morning, but that’s ok. Just so glad she is home.

Oh, D got her first tattoo this fall. We knew it was coming…

Could wring her neck now, though, as she slept through Fed Ex delivery of her new laptop (bought as old one on last legs). It required a signature. #firstworldproblems

Creekland - love, love ponies! D2 spent all her years from aged 6-18 showing and competing ponies then horses on the A circuit here in the west. She has missed riding this fall while in NYC for college, but plans to go out to the barn when she is home for Christmas and at least get on one of her trainer’s school horses to jump around a bit.

Nose piercings and tattoos seem to be normal for lots of freshman.

H and I leave at the crack of dawn tomorrow for a week in NYC with our D’s!

2016BarnardMom, glad she made it.

When older D was flying home from college for the first time, H woke me up in the middle of the night and said he was concerned D would oversleep and wanted me to call her to make sure she was up for a very early flight (she was also in a different time zone).

I have no idea why he had to wake ME up! He has a phone, and he was the one who was awake and concerned.

She was up and made it to the airport fine. Could have wrung H’s neck!

D’s flight lands in an hour. We solved our driving issue by me agreeing to take subway to airport and meeting her there.

She has always gotten SO mad when I call to make sure she is up. However, I know this kid. She can sleep through anything. Sometimes her alarm in her room is so loud it wakes me up in my room and she doesn’t wake up. This morning, she set two alarms and didn’t wake up. When she called at 945 am to tell me she overslept and was just leaving for the airport, I freaked. It was very tense the whole time as she checked her bag, had to get a shuttle to a different terminal and make it through security. I was telling her in texts to beg people to let her go ahead. A guy let her go ahead of him but suggested she say something to the TSA agent so she did. She said she could barely talk because she was trying not to cry. They let her go in the first class/preferred boarding security line. She didn’t put her shoes back on until she was on the plane!

Yeah, just a little stressful. And she had to take a cab to the airport instead of the bus as she planned, so we’re $40 lighter than expected. But, she is home. And I got to give her a huge hug.

We picked up her brother and two of her friends were here waiting for her to surprise her  We all went to lunch at Olga’s. She seems different. More self assured, I think. She and her brother left for their dad’s house. They’ll be back on Friday.

They fought over who got to drive. Everything feels normal again :)

D1: Mom, dorms close at 9 am so I have to be out.
Me: Ok, H will be there at 9.
D1: No, pick me up at 8.
Me: okay.
H goes this morning and arrives at 8:02 due to fog, D not answering phone, dorm locked, calls me (like I can do anything from home). Eventually goes into dorm when kids leave, D asleep. What? H is often late, so she saw no reason to get up until he arrived. Packed the night before, so all she had to do was dress. Hahahaha! H was not amused.

Delighted to have her here! D2016 had wisdom teeth out this morning and her sister is a welcome distraction.

Son’s bus just arrived at the drop off zone. It had a stop 45 min before in another town. We timed it so son would call at that stop since it takes 45 min for H to get to his stop.
Son arrives and calls H, “Where are you?” H, “I am 2/10 a mile from you. I can see the bus you just got off of driving away.” Good timing :)

Happy Thanksgiving to you, one and all!
S got in late last night and was so talkative. It was wonderful to hear about his ups and downs, his friends, his classes, everything. S was so chatty. An interesting comment he made today is about how different he feels now–he is definitely changed in his mind. I see a more mature and organized individual. He is so eager about and excited by his new life at college.

We had seen D & S since school started, but they hadn’t seen each other since Aug 26 until today. Happy reunion. Also seeing old HS friends. D stayed at school through this morning to attend only class that was going on as scheduled. A roommate is also in the class. D evidently relied on roommate to make sure they got up. Both overslept & missed it.

Missing DD who remained at school. Counting the days until Christmas break.

Like others, we’ve loved catching up with our guy. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. To those who couldn’t make it home <hugs> and Christmas break is less than a month away.</hugs>

We’ve already been warning that my guy is likely NOT to come home for spring break (wants to do an overseas trip with other students) and we’re all unsure about summer.

I’m enjoying the time we have.

Oh, and I wish I’d thought about that carrot/pony fundraiser! We quite possibly could have raised some decent gas money… ;)

glido, my D is there too. If it’s any comfort, there are a good number of students there, especially with all the international students they have. D says some of the international students don’t even get to go home over winter break.

She’s scheduled to work at her retail job Thursday - Monday, so I’m sure she’s enjoying today!

DD came home last night. 2nd Semester registration is complete. DD was given a time (1 hour window) to register. Showed up in that window and received all her first choice classes, with the profs she preferred, at the time she wanted. “In and out in less than 30 minutes” and run like a Swiss watch.

After reading about class availability and schedule jockeying elsewhere, I was cautiously optimistic. A big “non-event” according to her. I told her “that’s a good thing!”

Happy Thanksgiving!

Was wonderful having everyone home for supper last night (plus three in laws still living with us from hurricane evacuation). I was a bit sad that D1 didn’t stay over (her room is being borrowed) and she went back to her apartment last night.

DS, home for the holiday from his freshman year at Emory,is already in the dog house. I found him playing his Xbox at 4AM! This bugs me on so many levels…the time, the fact that he is already fighting a head cold, that the in-laws were sleeping in the adjoining room, sigh!

Okay, time to make the mashed potato casserole.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

giterdone, my D got all her classes, too, without any problems. It’s not just registration, but the entire school that is run like a Swiss watch. I’m continually impressed by UST’s efficiency.

My D and her friends are now beginning the dance of “Where shall we live next year?” “Who will each of us room with?” It seems like she just arrived on campus–I can hardly believe this conversation has already started!

Happy Thanksgiving!!! I have a broken ankle, so don’t have to be out shopping! Ds is in line at Best Buy right now. Hope all is well.
