Woody - does your D’s friend who went to RSI play cello? I saw her name on a list at the current college.

Seiclan - I find that with my boys no news really is good news. Although they are both fairly communicative with us and each other, they tend to only really call if they need to vent, or are concerned or upset about something. Our older son (graduates in May) tends to call more often to say “hi” and see how we are doing, but we rarely hear from him during busy, stressful times unless he want to tell us how miserable and busy he is!

Sounds like your guy is probably dealing with all the work and if he’s not calling to complain, I would think that is a very good sign that he is o.k.

For those of you who have been following DS fraternity story, I forgot to tell everyone that he is now a full-fledged brother! He weathered the pledgeship very well and has secured a prestigious position in the house during elections this week.

congrats mizzbee! Does he get out of the bootcamp now?

Do the officers get private suites to host dignitaries and such?

Thank you texaspg. He does not get a private suite until he becomes the equivalent of President. He is merely a Senator this year. They may still need to sleep 6 to a room but will be able to keep their toiletries and clothing in their room now…

Next year he will only be sharing with two others and will have access to a closet, television and gaming system. If they don’t have a spring pledge class they will be able to begin sleeping 4 to a room soon. I will need to read about furnishing a true room next year!

Oh Creekland - boo hiss! There are all kinds of good things that can be learned through doing group projects, but it’s really unfair for a teacher to stick a kid in a group, tie his hands, and let the group duds pull his grade down. Not cool at all.

texaspg - how has your D’s semester gone? Great I hope.

S has really enjoyed his first semester and has done great in his classes. He’s involved in just one group, and I think he’d like it if he had a regular outlet for physical activity, but just hasn’t found the right thing yet. Maybe next semester?

Creekland - I’m not sure if our boys ever see each other, but they are FB friends!

geogirl - hugs to your S! Colleg eis hard! That sums up so many different things abotu the transition!

Hugs to all the kids dealing with relationship disappointments or struggles.
Hugs to the parents watching helplessly!

Am I the only one who thinks the green squares and “repping” people is kind of weird and stupid?

D will be home in just under 2 weeks. One her final projects was a 13 minute movie/group project. She wrote almost all of it and had brief on screen moment. It was kind of entertaining to want.

She has one killer paper for her freshman seminar to finish.

If I agree with you PN, will you rep me and make me look popular? :D

PN - D will be home next weekend. Apparently this week is considered prep week for next week’s finals. Finals seem to cover 35-40% of the grade and so we won’t know how well the quarter went until those grades come out.

Answering for Woody since we know the friend also --

Yes, her D’s friend who went to RSI plays cello.

PN - I am just ignoring it because I obviously didn’t read the memo as to what this all means!

That seems to be my D’s experience, too. All her classes had final papers or projects due in the past week, and she was crazy-busy and stressed. Poor kid had to cope with a prolonged migraine in the middle of it all, too. Now that she’s “just” studying for finals I think she feels more in-control … at least, that’s what I’m inferring from the current lack of communication.

PN, no, you are not the only one who finds it weird. That said, feel free to place me on the path to success or whatever it is.

My D as well - 10 page paper, presentations, projects etc.

I think “repping” started on techie sites as a way to distinguish experts from wannabes. In that world, it’s not a bad idea and it’s pretty straightforward. If a person tells me how to fix my java code and it works, they must be pretty smart because they figured out something I couldn’t, right?
Here, I’m not so sure how useful it’s going to be. On the previous page, I saw tex with three green squares and MizzBee with two and both are well deserved, so who knows? Time will tell.

saintfan – I think I’ve infected D. Last night, her sax teacher told her that growing up to be like one’s dad wasn’t a bad thing to aspire to. She backed away from her mouthpiece just long enough to say, “… unless you’re Anthony Kiedis.” :o

Talked to S yesterday about finals and stress. Apparently, French is over and done with (for the semester) and the freshman seminar only has a final paper? That means he’ll have quite a bit of time to study for linear algebra and developmental psych.

PN–it is weird!!! :D

Seems that this forum is a lot busier than it has been in the past month or so. I think we’re all excited for our kids to get done with finals and get home! I can’t believe how quickly this semester has gone.

I just learned about this “repping” feature and it freaks me out.

I am extra eager to see D come home next week. She has been so stressed out about finals. She’s been calling me everyday saying she has headaches and feels like she’s coming down with something. She probably is but I reminded her this is crunch time. I promised to pamper her while she’s home. Til then, hit the books! :)

S’14 will have his last final this PM but won’t come home until next week. I suppose that’s what happens when they live off campus and aren’t being pushed out of the dorms.

Agree with PN; repping is weird. I think it is like FB where if you post and everyone in your world “likes” it, you feel better about yourself. This may be important for teens, but I think we parents have enough self esteem not to require everyone to "rep"us. That said, I did Rep PN for her “is it just me or does everyone think this is weird” comment. LOL! :)
